I work at LCI Kids Club. PM me for more info and location, etc.

rbd13,

Thanks for your reply. I have not made enough posts to pm yet, but if you have maybe you can pm me - I'm not sure if that would work though.

I can't PM either. I just don't want to post the location or details on a public forum. You can email me if you like.

If it's the one in Gangseo-Gu then you should avoid it like the plague.

Hi Beeyee,

I don't know if you will be checking this soon or not, but I have an opportunity to work at the Kids Club in Gangseo-gu and would love to hear your thoughts on why or why not to work there before I decide. I can't find anything about this specific Kids Club online.

Thank you!

Hey sorry it's a little late but here are my (diplomatic) thoughts.

The hours are horrible. 10-7ish with a one hour break. That equates to 8 hours a day in the classroom. There's a reason their contracts state 130 hours, whilst most academies will be 120. When I worked there, I was doing overtime (forced) and sometimes ended up working 150 hours a month.

Field trips are mandatory every Friday, which can be nice, but they can also be stressful. The lack of planning and organisation often means that you will be late back to the academy, and thus, have a shortened break. Occasionally there will also be mandatory Saturday activities (unpaid).

You are expected to phone teach once a month, again unpaid (or something ridiculous like l,000won a kid). You must make the questions and grade them accordingly. You will then be required to work out the class average etc. However, the whole system is a joke because you are expected to give each student an A, even if they don't say anything. It is an infuriating and pointless exercise.

Class reports are due every month. This is an extremely tedious process that takes hours and hours of (unpaid) time. Now, I've worked in Korea since 2007 and and written countless report cards. These are a whole different beast. You will need to collect individuals' scores every week, work out the average for the term, work out the class average and finally input them into the computer. And that is just for ONE criteria. I think there are 4-5 different criteria you must fill. It sounds simple but it is VERY time consuming and again, entirely pointless. These are monthly and will wear your down very quickly.

The boss at Gangseo (I'm being very diplomatic here), seems to have a disdain for foreigners. She is extremely difficult to approach and will not even look at you in the corridor, never mind dirty herself by having a conversation with you. In my almost 6 years of experience, she is by far the most unpleasant boss that I have ever dealt with.

There is really nothing good that I can really say about this academy, except for perhaps that you get paid on time (although I was underpaid on a near monthly basis and had to complain about it every month).

Look elsewhere.

I interviewed with this school, but due to my lack of response (I was busy and looking at another school) they passed me up for someone else and now I'm glad because I think I dodged a bullet...
