Yeah, it was a good list he had built there and he had been doing it for the last couple of years. Interesting to see those comparisons between schools for salaries, hours per-week, vacation time, etc. Also, I think he had a lot of cooperation from readers who provided him information on their own university positions.
I clicked the link and it would appear that he has either deleted or disabled his BLOGGER account. I don't see him deleting it, however.
Maybe he posts here and can explain? |

do a search in Google "joeseoulman.blogspot.com/" click on "Cached" at the end of the description. You should be able to see the list. |

Sorry that I'm going to cross-post on two threads, but both threads were pretty much the same.
The joeseoulman blog was on the downward slope for some time. I had started it in 2005 or maybe it was 2006, but in the past few years I just lost my blogging mojo. I had originally started it as a place to sty in touch with friends and family back home, but it slowly morphed into something that was less about my daily life and more about teaching in Korea in general.
Then two years ago, I started pursuing my doctorate degree and that took up much more time than I imagined. Think of an MA as being double the amount of work that an BA was, but in two years. For a doctorate, double that again and you'll start to have an idea. I simply didn't have much time for it, especially as I was still working full time.
I was happy to just keep it there and let people keep reading--especially since the info on Korean universities was so useful. Also there was a lot of info there pertaining to the interview process and getting a job in general. However, Blogger changed. One day I realized that it was linked to my google account, which has my real identity and personal information available. I want to keep my google account open, but not the blogger. Perhaps it was a little ham-fisted of me, but I decided to just delete the blog. Over the course of the six years or so, I did have posts that I'm not sure I'd want to be so easily linked to me in real life. I never really kept it a huge secret and most of my friends knew that it was me--I even had pictures of myself there. The fact that I worked at a women's university wasn't a secret. Finding a 'Joe' who works at one of the top women's university wouldn't have been all that difficult... but having it so directly linked to my real identity was the last straw.
I did back up the whole blog before deleting it so you may see it in some other form in the future, but it will probably have a slightly different focus (more education-related and less personal) and be on a different platform. When and if I continue with the Korean University list, I hope to make it into something that utilizes an open platform (like google docs) so people can update it themselves and it can grow without my help.
By the way, if you want a copy of the list I made at the start of the year (which was updated based on the fall semester of 2011 job postings) PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you. |
