The statewide race for Governor Walker was an overwhelming vote of approval for the continued reduction in pay and benefits wasted on government and overpaid workers.
There was no such statewide vote on the State Senate.
The State Senate in WI consists of 33 seats - 99 in the State House. Both houses have a long history in Democratic hands. The Republicans had a close majority before all of this started because they had won a couple of close races in 2010. It was a surprise, and a demonstration of how America is finally waking up to the fact that big government is the cause of our problems.
During the recall election which affected a handful of seats that had been close before, there were a couple that changed back during this whole process, only one changed on Tuesday, by a few hundred votes. This had nothing to do with the recall and everything to do with local factors.
The Democrats picked up one seat on Tuesday out of 33 by a few hundred votes. (Aren't they doing a recount since it's so close?)
All of the Republican State Senate seats could have changed over. They didn't. The recalled seats had all been close before, which is why they were targeted. But the people have spoken. Even in the State Senate we can see that the people want less government. They want more cutbacks. The rest of the recalled R State Senators were returned to Madison.
The Republicans will most likely retake control of the Wisconsin Senate this fall.
(... I don't even like Republicans on the whole, but this is the reality ...) |

Working class people practically benefit more from unions and social welfare safety nets than they do from laissez faire-/anarcho-capitalism.
Although most people are working class by nature, they tend to identify themselves with the corporate masters - especially when insidiously bombarded with lying propaganda from multiple media sources.
Government needs to be sufficiently strong, enlightened - and big - to protect the commonwealth interests of all residents, including animals and trees, from the exploitative tendencies of big business and greedy corporate "people".
To really make fair political and economic progress, the corrupting influence of money (accelerated by Citizens United) has to be reigned in. |
