I know this is serious, but I couldn't help laughing.

A foreign wife who was charged with attempting to murder her Korean mother-in-law was sentenced to a three years jail term suspended for five years, Monday.
The Gwangju District Court also ordered the 24-year-old Vietnamese housewife to 320 hours of community service, 40 hours of psychotherapy and three-year probation in a trial by jury.
Attempting to kill a family member is totally unacceptable for any reason regardless of ones nationality, a judge said.
However, the language barrier was the main cause of the conflict in this case. The court accepts the verdict of the jury that deemed active communication between the accused and her family would be the solution rather than sending the accused directly to prison.
The woman moved to Gwangju after getting married to a 36-year-old Korean man in 2009. The woman has had conflicts since then with her mother-in-law who lived with them.
The foreign wife was resentful about her mother-in-laws complaints and for picking on her for petty matters such as meeting her friends and making phone calls. The daughter-in-law then put rat poison on the 69-year-old mother-in-laws meal in August 2011 but this failed to kill her as the color of the white rice turned blue.
She apologized, but the mother-in-law, whose name was not released, was still angry at her foreign daughter-in-law.
I just cant imagine how I can face someone who tried to kill me, and I hope she goes back to Vietnam, the 69-year-old woman said. |
