Do electric dehumidifiers eat a lot of electricity? I'm considering getting one to help combat mold but I'm concerned about the electricity usage. I don't mind paying a few more bucks, but if it's going to send a 10,000 won electricity bill up into the stratosphere (past 100,000 won) then I might go nuts with the hippo boxes instead. |

I used to use the hippos, but now I prefer the dehumidifier.
On top of that, I still use my AC units...more for the heat than humidity.
I use the dehumidifier on my balcony for my plants(gardens).
I got a pretty good one...does about 4 liters a day.
The hippos just couldn't cover the humidity of the Korean summers for me.
My area has a problem with mold...and it can get pretty bad if precautions aren't taken. Not a big fan of the mold.
Last year was my first year with the dehumidifier.
My a/c unit drives up my utility bill a fair bit...so I expect that.
Can't say that I monitored the extra expense...and whatever it is...it's worth it for me...though to be honest...last summer I ran it 24/7 and didn't notice much of an increase. |

Dehumidifier energy varies depending on make and model but a small efficient unit can use around 250 watts (per hour). Consider the wattage when you make your purchase.
You'd probably run it 12 hours a day so that makes 3kW a day/90kW per month. What is the price of a kW of energy in Korea these day? 100 won? |
