Thanks for the people in this forum who've helped me before. I've been gaining a lot of insights on this whole going to korea process.

Now that I have my f4 visa and assuming that I will have my cbc in 2-3 months, I have contacted my university for my diploma and they will be available on January 2013. I know that with an f4 I don't need this to go Korea, but is it possible to secure a teaching english job without the diploma or do I have to wait until January to start teaching there? I still have summer school and I thought that by November I would be ready to go but it seems like it's going to take longer.

Do you have a university qualification? Are you talking about a diploma teaching qualification in addition to university education? There seems a lot missing from your post. I am guessing you are talking about degrees and your lack of them.

My assumption is that many teaching jobs in Korea require a degree regardless of experience. When working for a hagwon, all your educational certificates are copied at the Ministry of Education to ensure quality. I had an F2 and I was required to hold a degree. In addition to this, I now have an MA, a CELTA and a TEFL-Q qualification.

You got to think about who you are competing with: those with degrees, certificates and possible MAs or those without any formal education. Guess who the schools will select.

The laws have changed so you do have to have an apostilled FBI background check, an apostilled copied of your degree, and a health check to work as an English teacher in Korea.

There are places that will hire you, but from what I've seen these days, most places require all three of those things (if they're going to register you at the board of education).

So in other words, when I'm scouting for recruiters here in the US, I should have all these documents in place?

I would think so. The process will go more smoothly if you have all the docs in hand.

Well the health check can wait till your are in Korea first.

Second still confused on the Diploma. I am going to assume you mean a University Degree. Even as an F4 to get a legit teaching job from Public School to Hagwon, you need a degree. It may not be immigration asking but MOE. Still people can still teach under the table or schools may not care of check on qualifications.

Third, even the FBI check takes time, it still expires. I am certain the CRC is only good for six month from date of issue. Some say 3 months. So if you get your CRC early, and you get your Diploma much later. You could find your CRC worthless. You should get the process started again in a couple of months.

Do you need an actual certified diploma. Some people in the past have been allowed to use letters from Universities (explaining the delay). But I do not know if that is still done. Best would be to ask or check with your nearest Korean Consulate. Check webpage first, then call.

Good Luck
