I've heard good things about edubest. I had a friend who worked for them but I can't seem to find any info for them. Anyone know how to conteact them about possible openings?

Is that the same as Winedu? I think they go by multiple names. I work in an after school program and I HIGHLY recommend them, but there's a few things here and there.

Yes, they're a racket and the legality of them is murky at best.

One guy I know got fired because he got too many complaints... not sure how, considering your co-teacher is supposed to take all the heat for you. Anyways, probably a bad situation, but still, you never know.

The hours and pay are excellent and the company is big so it's secure-ish, unless your school principal decides not to go through with it, but they'll bribe him to continue the program year after year, most likely.

If I was offered a job with an after school program versus public or hagwon, the after school program wins every time. All ESL jobs in Korea should be so cushy.

Edubest/Win/Edup, is currently going through a wrecking period, and not paying the teachers they haven't already fired.

Does anyone on here work for them who can speak to the current situation?

I just finished with them but that's because I'm leaving the ROK. They always pay on time. Low hours, great pay.

The problem lies more with the school you're put in than the company. Co-teachers a a crap shoot. That's the main problem. A good co-teacher will let you discipline the kids (they never do) in any way you see fit and defend you when the kids then parents eventually complain. A bad co-teacher will throw you under the bus, the company tells you to stop disciplining the kids, and then you're left out to dry cause the kids know they can go crazy and you can't do anything about it. That was my last situation.

Before that, disciplining wasn't the problem, it was the kids complaining about the work/fun level, which varied weekly as I changed to meet the parents expectations, and then other parents would complain. That changed because my new co-worker gave more work and had less fun than me, so I became the lesser of two evils among the students.

But I digress, the company is fine and many of my friends/co-workers work with them, I mean, a lot. I just got my roommate and another co-worker a job with them no problem.

Basically, if you have a decent school and co-worker, you're good. Even if you don't, the company itself is fine.

No medical, pension, or housing though. Keep that in mind. I'll PM contact info.

I work for them now. Agree with everything the previous poster said. The woman in charge of hiring is nice and generally quite helpful. They hire through www.expat.com.
