Anyone know what the deal is with this?

If one got a new passport would they still have the same visa / ARC info & numbers?

Your ARC would remain the same. Your VISA, depending on your nationality, would have expired about the same time that you got your ARC.

They may or may not transfer anything into your new passport since your ARC determines your eligibility to leave, re-enter and stay in Korea.

I have had the same numbers for years, through leaving and new passports. The little sticker in the passport is not really important. As ttomppatz said it is your ARC. When you have a new passport, go into immigration and update them of the change. Should not take long. A note will be likely taken down, and maybe a new sticker/stamp will be put in the passport.

I am talking about if one turned in their ARC at immigration and left (canceling their visa / ARC).

Then a year - years later got a new passport, then applied for jobs would their visa & ARC number be the same as the one they had years prior?

visa = NO. Each new visa has a new number.

ARC = probably yes. You file remains at Kimmi forever and your ARC remains the same unless you use a passport from a different country (dual citizen and switch passports from one nationality to another).

I should have said the same ARC number.

Any details on why the worries? Trying to change jobs or get under/over a mistake on an old visa (cough cough Midnight run).

If you want to tell.

Good Luck.

Since one has already had an ARC in the past, does it take as long to get a new one like if you are first getting it or does it arrive fairly quickly?

Takes as long since they all get sent to the same place for printing.
They aren't done at the local office anymore.

I waited 3 weeks for my ARC to be ready for pick-up. Maybe if I chose the mailing option, it would have arrived sooner.

I remember seeing this somewhere before. This is why I am asking. I couldn't find it in the searches though.

I just got a new (replacement) passport 10 days ago. Am I to report this to immigration immediately? I'm guessing it could affect my pension payment and other possible matters. I am also finishing a contract 5 weeks from now. Can this be handled with a quick phone call or facsimile (e-scan)?

Thanks for enlightening.

You are required by law to report this to the immigration within 14 days.

I guess it may affect your movement in and out of the country if your passport number doesn't match what they have in their data base connected to your visa. I doubt a phone call or fax will be enough (if it is possible, consider giving them the passport number of an illegal friend of mine to make him legal. Well, you get the point, right?).
