|
|
I'm returning to Korea soon and have been accessing my cash overseas using a debit / ATM card at foreign exchange booths and within banks. I don't have a pin number for the card so ATM's are a no go.
Anyone know if any of the banks or forex booths are equipped to do manual transactions? Usually a simple process of showing my passport while they slide the card through a credit card reader. |

if your Korean card works overseas, then there's a good chance that bank has overseas branches/connections.
you didn't provide the name of either the bank or what country you're in so it's difficult for anyone to give you information
basically, tho, wherever you are if you need an international banking transaction look for one of the larger banks in the area - if you aren't sure where one might be, large hotels are generally helpful for such information, just ask at the lobby desk, you don't have to be a registered guest. |

Oops, guess I should of clarified the issue more. The debit card is issued by an American bank and I'm wondering if I can withdraw cash within Korea without using a pin number???....walk into bank or up to forex booth with passport and card.
Thanks |

ok, again it depends - does the card have the Visa or Mastercard logo on it, i.e., is it a check card? then yes, you can go into just about any bank (but I'd stick to the larger ones) and bring your passport and they will make the transaction for you. it's a bit time consuming but totally doable.
you might also check and see if they have a branch in Korea, some American banks do or have relationships with banks here. check their website.
if it's not a check card (no Visa/MC logo) you might be out of luck and need the pin, which, as you know, has to be mailed to your address of record. I do know tho, they will FedEx it to you in a crunch (not overseas, but to your American address). |

you're welcome but the times I've done it, it was never simple and always slow and time-consuming, maybe 1/2 hour even. they get on the phone and do all kinds of verifications - which is good on your end, to make sure you are who you say you are, just tedious. |
