Can you take a bike onto the subway? I've heard yes and no. Also heard you can only take them on Sundays. I've seen people do it but still not sure.

thanks

I've done it a few times. Just make sure you go to the very end of the train and don't go at busy times.

I believe there's a space for bikes in the very front car as well as they very back.

Officially, you are only supposed to bring your bike on trains Sundays and holidays. They are planning to allow it more often than that, but they have not quite gotten there yet. (Does anyone know why? What needs to happen in order to let folks bring their bikes on Saturdays, or weekdays during non-peak times? More trains? More space in the first and last cars?)

I could be wrong (and since I haven't checked any regulations there's a very good chance that I AM wrong) but I think that you are only forbidden from taking a bike on the subway during certain peak hours (i.e. rush hour). Still, you're supposed to use the end car when you do take it on the subway.

If you have a fold up bike then you may be able to take it on even during peak hours. (I have.)

Anyway, as long as the train and platforms aren't crowded, no one will likely say anything. Just go to use the wheel chair entrance. I've even had the security guard open it manually for me during the daytime, so I'm sure it's not a big issue (even if it's not officially permitted).

With the bike path attached being a big part of the president's four rivers plan for better tourism in Korea, there should also be increased access for bikes on subways and buses. The new subway cars at the front and back are a pretty good start, but I hope they don't stop there.
