Niiice, got on that fast.

The burritos are Koreanized, and therefore suck balls, last time I had one. Eh, I forget, but there was some stuff in that burrito that shouldn't have existed, cucumbers and "chili sauce," or something like that. I haven't frequented Dos Tacos often, but I've enjoyed the tacos al pastor at the Gangnam location on a couple of occasions. Expensive, but decent lunch time specials. And WTF do you expect, anyway? That's how western Korean restaurants appear to work: Start off good, then begin serving trash to satisfy the local palate, which expects, and rightfully receives, disgusting distortions of foreign food. It's a shame, Dos Tacos was one of the first places I ate at when I arrived. It was good the last time I went with the al pastor tacos, but it inevitably turns to shit because one of Korea's greatest strengths appears to be destroying food from other countries.

So let me get this straight...a bunch of people are complaining that Tex-Mex, Tex-Mex of all foods, is being turned into some sort of bastardized, localized fusion mess? And Taco Bell is somehow authentic? Seriously, not trying to be apologist on this, just noticing the supreme irony.

It's not wrong to localize foods. What's wrong is if those localized foods are bad. Sweet Potato cake? Not bad. Sweet potato hot dog? Get that out of my face. So criticize the crappy K-Tacos for being a bad fusion, not for being fusion.

This is why I respect NYC_Gal when it comes to food. Doesn't settle for garbage. Judges things on their own merit and the end result. Whether it's local, fusion, or foreign.

As for Tex-Mex, its nice to hear about another good place. Hopefully this can break up the monotony of Tomatillo/OTB/Taco Bell, all of which are blandly competent and that's all. I was about to try one of the smaller shops on my next junket up to Seoul, but thank goodness for this thread. Saran-Wrap in food? Mystery meat? That's only reserved for the Bell.

Also, there are 2 places that deliver burritos. Fog City Cafe (http://www.fogcitycafe.com/) in Incheon makes mission-style burritos, and are pretty nice, though I usually get pizza or soup when I go there. Fog City burritos are delivered within 48 hours, though I've only ever had them freshly made at the restaurant.

Gringos Korea (http://gringoskorea.com/) has gotten some good press, as well, though when I asked about customization (I asked if they'd make them with brown rice) they said no, so I can't give my opinion on their spice blend. These burritos are supposed to be delivered within a week, and are frozen. I'll pass, but others have said good things.

There is a mexican place in 이대 that I like. It is called taco and rice and they make burritos and tacos. They are koreanized but I still think they are good.

What disappointment if someone were to follow the directions to a "Mexican" restaurant only to find another Tex-Mex place. What disappointment that most people don't even care to distinguish, it's never a problem when it comes to Italian food and e.g. Pizza Hut.

Does one have to travel to Mexico in order to get Mexican food?

In all fairness, Italians didn't eat tomatoes until after the new world was discovered, so it could be argued that "Italian" food is fusion food.

Has Dos Tacos changed everything on its menu to Koreanized Tex-Mex food? What other restaurants changed their fare? Examples?

I get your point (even though I haven't posted in this thread yet) but I think, when you take it out of the Tex-Mex being fusion food context, and look at it as a previously okay restaurant dropping the quality of their offerings, the irony you're getting at fizzles out.

I mean, you've never been sad to find that a restaurant has declined in quality? Never?

Like I said, Dos Tacos used to be all right. I haven't been in months, but the last time I ate there (at the Gagnam one), I thought it was tasty enough. Dos Tacos has been around for a while and had been on to something good - they have a lot of different kinds of burritos, veggie friendly ones etc - so if they took a recent nosedive, that's sad to hear.
