Haha, brilliant.

And never mind that human DNA comes from this alien DNA according to the movie, how come every other lifeform on earth has startlingly similar DNA to that of humans also? And does life everywhere in the universe now simply equal DNA, just as it happens to be here on earth? Terracentrism seeps in everywhere, all unwittingly.

Or was the opening scene with the Engineer's body dissolving and thereby impregnating the earth with his own DNA meant to be the beginning of *all* life on Earth? That makes even less sense. Why would human DNA be a suitable starting point for life on Earth? And why, if it did manage to somehow metamorphose into the appropriate beginnings of life here, would it then reemerge - in an exact match - in humans, eons later, exactly the same as it was at the start? What are the odds of that?

Dodgy, dodgy science in a sci-fi flick...

Horrible, horrible movie.

Yeah we found a bunch of caves all over the world where people are pointing to the same constellation and we've found this constellation, so we conclude that this must be where man came from so we are going to spend trillions of dollars to go to that place.

Utterly ridiculous!! For once Dave's posters are pretty much spot on.

This movie is only worth watching if you're stoned out of your mind and it's free, other wise give it a wide birth.

I liked it.

Didn't spoon feed things to the audience, was clever and was visually spectacular.

Perfect sci-fi flick.

There's nothing all that dodgy about what you said.

The opening scene didn't necessarily take place on earth. It was just an illustration of what the engineer's do.

Also, we don't know what exactly the engineer did/took, but it wasn't simply human DNA. If I remember the sequence correctly, it went through some other things before it resembled DNA. It was the starting point of life, the first step in evolution. What the engineer took is probably more akin to a non-weaponized version of what they use to make the "Aliens."

Odds don't matter..

There was no way for any of the primitive civilizations to know that that constellation existed. Also, the fact that all the people in the paintings were standing with aliens and pointing, it was taken as an invitation to go. That interpretation was an act of faith. Faith played a significant role in the movie.

The old man, the head of the company, funded the expedition because he hoped that if the theory were true, the engineers could let him continue living. Seeing as how he was incomprehensibly rich, and kept in stasis to retain the last few days of his life in hopes to prolong his life, it doesn't seem that implausible that he'd be willing to risk all of his money on the expedition. Also, given the nature of the company, it's possible he/they knew a lot more than what was let on.

I thought the movie was above average. Highly enjoyable scifi flick (though sub par "Alien" movie), had a lot of interesting thoughts floating around, but at times seemed to be self limiting.

Finally got to see it over the weekend. While the deeper messages contained within the film were interesting to explore, I do feel like the movie was purposefully vague. The fact that there can be so many interpretations about the film's agenda is a testament to that. Hell, I can't even decide if it's supposed to be an alien origins film or not.

This does create problems. I was so wrapped up trying to work out the bigger plot in the film that I didn't particularly care about what was actually happening in the moment. Couldn't really bring myself to care about any of the characters.

I didn't exactly not enjoy the film, but there's a lot of explaining to do in the next film. Evil mystery sludge is nothing new to sci fi, but it tends to have some consistency.

There is a problem with the texture of the sludge?
That would definitely spoil the movie.
Nothing worse then runny sludge.

One of my friends who had not seen Alien asked which one the Preditor was at the end of the movie. I thought it was pretty funny.

It took me awhile to explain that AVP is not really the same as the Alien movies.

No offense to her if she reads this.

See I totally did that on purpose but then you had to go and explain it.

Things I didn't like;

When the biologist tries to 'pet' the snake-like alien (retarded)
When the captain announces that Prometheus is not a warship (you spend two and a half years traveling to an unknown part of the galaxy and don't carry any serious hardware?).
A few other scenes, which I won't mention as they are spoilers!

But, hell, I enjoyed the movie. I went back and saw it on he 3D IMAX and I have to say it makes the whole movie that much better. I love the visuals, some of the best I've seen for years!! I don't think I've been in such a state of awe since I saw A.I on the big screen.

If you love SFX, go and see it on the IMAX before it goes!
