I'm a recent college grad that really wants to teach in Korea ideally starting in January 2013. Could anyone give me an idea as to when it would be a good time to start the whole job hunting process, as well as the whole paperwork process? I know that I should have all my paperwork done before I actually apply for any positions, so I'm thinking I should apply for all my paperwork sometime in September and then start applying in October/November. Is october or November too early to expect schools/hakwons to be hiring for January?
Also, should I budget more time since I'm an American born Korean? I've heard it's harder for ethnic Koreans to land jobs as English teachers.
I'd appreciate any help! Thanks! |

You have to have your paperwork completely in order before you apply, otherwise recruiters will ignore you as soon as they find out you don't have it ready. With your paperwork ready it might take 3 weeks to go through the process with the recruiter and the embassy. You could always apply to EPIK or GEPIK as soon as they begin taking applications. Right now I don't know anything about the dates. To apply for EPIK or GEPIK you will have to send 2 scanned recommendations along with the application so make sure you have those ready. They won't accept applications without those recommendations included. The rest of the documents there is a deadline for submission after you are accepted, so you would have a little bit of time to get those ready. As far as recruiters you have to have everything ready. |
