My boyfriend and I are planning to come to Korea and teach English after we graduate. We have two (strictly indoor) cats that we'd be bringing with us... Can anyone give me an idea of how plausible this is? How is it finding housing that allows cats? Does anyone have experience bringing their cat(s) to Korea?

Hi,

I am taking my cat too. I have permission from my school, and apartment person. Not sure if you can get housing when you get there.

I just wanted to let you know in case you didn't that you have to show rabies certificate, at least 30 days old, and your cats have to be microchipped. The vet has to be FDA approved and then I have to get a stamp on the certificate from the state gov.

here's some info..

My wife and I brought our cat over 4 years ago.

Go here for any info. http://www.qia.go.kr/english/html/Animal_livestock/02AnimalLivestock_007-8.jsp

It's really pretty easy. Although many older Koreans have superstitions about cats you shouldn't have trouble with housing.

I had cats here up until 2008. I brought them over here from Canada. There has been a marked improvement since my cats have returned to Canada in '08 for vet care and food availability. Do your due diligence with your shots and vet certificates for the cat(s). Check what airlines (if any) exist anymore that you can take to bring your cats on. Most if not all will make them go Cargo. They'll be fine there. Heavy duty cages wil be the best bet.

Good luck.

You might consider looking for jobs in rural areas where the housing is (sometimes) more spacious. Downtown Seoul + first job = officetel. That's no place for a cat.

Our apartment is 17 pyeong, and our cat was pretty unhappy. We just shipped him to America (we'll be following in July).
