Give them all their demands, but keep the buses/subway open two hours later. See how that works out for them.

Drove the girlfriend home and saw several poor sods who forgot or didn't realize there was a taxi strike.

Still, nice and cozy drive for me!

it was a nice change of pace yesterday, quiet streets, less air pollution etc.

of course i didnt have anywhere to go yesterday and where i did go, i could walk to, if it was pouring rain all day my position may have been different

Or enforce that they can't refuse a customer due to the fare being too small. (my little pipe dream)

I hope they stay on strike longer. Roads were so nice today.

+1

And that's not a selfish thought, just using the bus was a much more pleasant experience for me.

My suggestion would be to triple the fares but remove 2/3 of the existing taxis and not allow any new ones. Then have the subway/buses run 24/7 or make distances shorter (e.g. wormholes etc.).

I heard it was a much more pleasant experience for the bus drivers as well.

Judging from what I noticed yesterday, I'd say night taxis need to be out in full force. It was a Wednesday night, and I saw several people in the couple of nightlife areas I passed standing around waiting for taxis. Some looked quite impatient, and given how drunk people sometimes get in Korea, I'm not sure sticking them on the subway or a bus is the most amazing idea.

I do agree that the number of taxis overall should be reduced, though. And shift the focus to nighttime and day taxis that focus on key business areas, or perhaps even overhaul to full-on call taxi mode. Raise the starting rates as well, sure. Phase it in over time so everyone can adjust. It kind of stinks for the honest folks just trying to make a living, but raising rates by anything other than a subtle amount alone would, in my opinion, lead to fewer passengers overall.

Another potential issue is the cost of running the trains and buses longer. It can be mitigated to a degree by stretching out the runs to say, every 15 minutes or half hour or so, but it's still a factor.

The Korean Herald mentions planned strikes for October and December. I'll be interested to see how far the drivers go with those, as yesterday seems to have hardly been an inconvenience for the average Joe.

Talking about people waiting around for taxis after the clubs, so if they don't have a car and miss the buses, they will have to walk home? lol I can see the little miss princess trotting down the road holding her 6 inch stelletas
