Hey everyone,

I will be returning to Korea for another year soon.

I had to hand in my ARC on the way out last time and couldn't do a transfer.

I will arrive in Korea on the 24th Jun.

I have found out that the hagwon will close from 1 - 3 Aug.

That will be seriously cutting it tight to get my ARC.

As I have lived in Korea before I don't want to waste three precious days holidays in Korea and want to travel elsewhere.

My question is can you get your ARC on a fast track or something?

OR

Can you get a letter from Kimmi to allow you to head off on holidays and come back while your waiting for your ARC.

Furthermore, if I wanted to go to China, could I get my visa in the Busan consulate if I don't have an ARC?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

No and NO and no.

Get your ARC application done ASAP and plan for your 3-day vacation to be spent in Korea.

You need the ARC to leave, return or get the visa for China.

You have 5 weeks. Apply for your ARC immediately. Get your medical done the next day if you need it for your visa and go to immigration as fast as you can. You might get it in time if you're lucky.

Yeah I figured as much. A bloody curse really!

I'll put major pressure on the new boss to get it done ASAP.

Just say I do get the ARC in time. How long does it usually take to get the China visa? I understand that you need to go through a visa agency for that. Any info on that?

At least with China it's a short hop and I might not get nailed for super inflated prices. We live in hope!

Thanks for the help!

China visa:
regular service - 4 days (+1 to2 more for the agency)
expedited service -2 days (+1 to2 more for the agency)
Rush - same day (+1 to2 more for the agency).

IF you are NOT American, $35, $55, $75 + agency fees.
IF you ARE American then they start at $200 + agency fees.

If you get your ARC in time, head to Fukuoka. Not expensive, nice in the summer, and you generally don't need a visa. If you are in Busan you can just take the ferry across.

Thanks a million for the visa info Ttom!

I've already been to Fukuoka before so I don't want to do a repeat trip!

Anyhow I'll just have to wait and see if we get it in time.

I really hope it's not busy and my boss can ask them to try to have it done ASAP.

I'm assuming that the busiest times for ARC production are the public school intakes. . . . Hopefully it won't be too busy at the end of June.

The problem (delay) is that they are no longer printed at the local office.

They are all sent away for printing and you get to wait. There is no expedited service.

Hey folks,

I just got off the phone with Kimmi there.

Sorry to second guess you Ttompatz but I said I'd give them a call and see what's going on.

Here's the deal:

Once you submit your docs to register as a foreigner:

Medical check
Passport
Passport photo with white background
Copy of the business registration form
Application form
10,000W

Kimmi will give you a document called "Certificate of Registration" one week after you submit your docs.

You show this to Kimmi when you leave on holidays and show it again on your return. This could be my problems solved!

feel free to second guess me...

http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=221114&highlight=certificate
(although it was someone switching to a D10)

but I don't think you will get a Chinese visa with a paper cert.
(but I could very well be just as wrong on that as well).

Yeah I had seen that thread and that was actually the reason I wanted to give them a call. I figured if they would do it for a D10 they might just do it for an E2. Maybe immigration just became more practical!
