Easier said than done dude. I have bills to pay. But you pay crap wages, I do crap work. Simple as that. |
You mean you take a job knowing the pay and the expected workload and then later decide you really don't feel like fulfilling your obligations? |

Well being the capitalist society that Korea is, you get what you pay for. Pay someone a shit ton of money, you'll get that much out of them. Pay someone a pitiful wage, you won't. |
So obviously those CEOs that run everything must be the best workers possible!
You can get great work out of people earning a crap wage and poor work out of people making a good wage. A lot comes down to talent and work ethic. People with a strong work ethic could be dropped into a minimum wage job and will still try to do the best they can.
And there are people who no matter what, will always see their wage as too low. Give them 80k and they say they should get 120. Give them 120 and they say they should get 150. |
Is there a solar eclipse today? I agree with SR for once. Individual work ethic is what it comes down to.
Besides, if you do "crap work," how are you ever going to get a better position elsewhere? |

Fine, but the employer shouldn't be complaining about Harvard valedictorians not kicking down their door begging them for a job at minimum wage. If you want that kind of talent (ok fine, talent=/=name on diploma but how else do you evaluate an entry level new hire?) you'd better be prepared to pay for it.
Google, Goldman Sachs, Apple, and Facebook employees do a good job at work because they're treated well and with respect by their employer. Work ethic has something to do with it but treating them well and with respect makes it more likely that they'll do good work.
Going back to the topic: yeah the idiot who approved the "primitive energy" ad should be fired. Kenya is NOT primitive. Last I checked it along with South Africa was one of the most developed countries in Africa. |

I don't want to get into it too deeply with you because it's a bit tangential, but I do want to ask, do you have direct experience working at a Korean company? And have you ever been involved in hiring someone here?

I would say it's not a panacea because native speakers don't have much influence overall as a general rule. Also, native speakers don't automatically make good editors.

I don't agree with everything you've said in this thread, but I definitely agree with this. |

What I have seen is that at the university level I've heard of too many people getting certain positions because of who they knew, not necessarily what they knew, and many people have to pay for their positions. And when I see a major company that can afford to have the best look at what's written in a foreign language doesn't, it makes me wonder. It's not that hard to have the best of the best handling matters, so I'm wondering if the best of the best get enough of a shake out there when looking for work. Maybe you know more than me. |

The best of the best don't generally jump at a salary of 2.5-3.0 million a month with no housing, a 9-6 workday, and 6-10 vacation days a year, as a freelancer/contracted employee, with no hope of advancement.
The problem is, like motiontodismiss mentioned, the pay is kind of low. People with ability (I'm not sure how one quantifies English editing ability but anyway) and experience will blow right past a lot of these offers. |
