they want you to stay until they find another teacher - or two - not sure you really will want to stay under the circumstances. drugs - including pot - are not even close to being acceptable in Korea - you already said everyone knows about bf's failure on the drug test - if you hang together, or even not, you will probably be under a very watchful eye for the entire contract - it could get pretty nasty. and all it will take is just one mother complaining that teacher has a druggie bf, and threaten to yank her kid and out you go.
could be wrong but I'm willing to bet they'll ax your butt within 3 months.
might want to start with a clean slate for the both of you and next time be more careful. |
Agree with this 100% OP, you are a druggy as well in their eyes. Few things in life are cut and dry but this is certainly one of them. Since you are not in dire straights - yet - I would strongly recommend that you start the process over again.
There is absolutely no way to exonerate yourself...I can guarantee that they are in the process of replacing you as we speak even if you do decide to stay.
I'm generally not one to give such strong advice but in this case it surely is warranted.
I would bet everything I own that if you decide to stay you won't last the generous 3 month prognostication given by the above poster. |

While I feel for your situation....you/he brought it upon yourselfs.....
We all know that the rules of society do not apply to all....it's selective.....I am not going to join the bandwagon and bash the OP....but why?!?!?!
A foreign country yet! You should have been protecting your BF and not using yourself if you did or telling the BF...hey....the rules of society apply to us also.....
once he is in the system for drugs....he is Persona non grata...no visa....unless the test results are overturned....
Sure...nothing wrong with 420...'cept it happens to be illegal in korea! So why push the envelope? |

| Everyone so far has assumed that because the OP claims "medicinal" use, she means that the rope was medically prescribed. Somehow, I doubt it. When I'm unable to coax the sandman, I sometimes self-medicate, too. With Caol Ila. |

Medicinal use is irrelevant. This is Korea, there is no circumstance where it's ok to have MJ in your system. For the record, I don't use pot, but think it should be legalized, regulated, and taxed just like alcohol. I think any argument that tries to show pot as more harmful than alcohol sounds ridiculous.
So, your BF is stupid/careless not bad or evil. However, again this is Korea and he will be viewed as evil, as will you by association. I'm surprised the police havent been notified as I was under the impression that having it in your system is against the law.
Find a new job far away from this one. |

He... didn't know... that they... had started to... check for... cannabis again... Mistakes happen... Such as... way too many... ellipses...
To the OP, it is a good idea that you go, get your papers anew, and start over. They're going to think that you're a drug addict, and drop you at the first chance. |

My point is that even if it was prescribed, that's a red herring and has no relevance here as medical use isnt recognized in Korea |

Be careful.
My last workplace had a situation where the teacher (recently arriving from a job in Thailand) flunked the first and second test, then was basically hauled in for questioning by immigration police, subjected to a hair test, and permanently kicked out of the country. I am not sure why...I guess the hair test showed high long-term use?
They are pretty serious about the drug test... |
