To all the ladies in Korea, it looks as though birth control pills will be classified as prescription only as of July, while the morning-after pill will be readily available at pharmacies without a doctor's visit.
Stock up. I bought a year's supply in the past 2 days, and plan on buying another year and a half's worth (the expiration date is Dec of 2014, so I'd rather get as many as possible now) within the next couple of days.

Because in Korea, it's better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission...
I can't help but think the morning-after cocktail is more dangerous than a monthly hormone. |

This is so annoying... I loved how Korea rewarded women who took the time and money to protect themselves. The morning after pill is so harmful to your body... it's the same dosage as 30-50 birth control pills, all in one go x.x
Also, since it's going to be such a hassle, why not try getting an IUD? In Korea they're (from what I've heard), just a little over 100,000 won if you have insurance and go to an obgyn (Don't go to a general hospital... I called to ask about it and they said it's 3x the price since they don't specialize in it >.<)... I'm kind of leaning that way myself since it's so cheap here, for the same brands as the States. (At least, for Mirena, the one with hormones in it. It has all the same period-calming effects but lasts five years).
quote: There are 11 kinds of birth control pill brands in Korea, with nine of them being subject to the change at this time.
There are 11 brands? I've only seen Myvlar and Mercilon... I wonder which two will remain unaffected? |

I take Mercilon. I go to a gyno twice a year and have a full check up, including a sonigram of my breasts to check for lumps, but I can't get him to prescribe Ortho-Tri Low dose, which is what I took at home. They only have the higher dosage. I also don't do well on Yaz, so Mercilon seems to be the best fit, with what's available here. It works, so I don't see how it's crap, Reset. I'm buying a lot, because I'm moving back home in less than a year, and birth control costs $30-50 a month, even with insurance, where I live. When I can get it for 7,000 won, it makes sense.
I'm not interested in an IUD. I'd rather take a pill every day for the next 4 years. After that, my husband will have a vasectomy. I take birth control, because several studies have shown that, for women who don't have children naturally (we're adopting,) taking the pill for 8-15 years can reduce the chances of getting certain types of ovarian and cervical cancer. In 4 years, I'll have been on it for 8 years.
I took the morning-after pill when I was 18 when my boyfriend's condom broke. I was violently ill for well over a day. It's great that it's available over the counter (it wasn't in NY back then) but it certainly isn't healthier than the regular pill. |

Looks like a government ploy to increase the birth rate. |

You know, a few people have said that to me this week.
UPDATE: I was able to buy 6 boxes at 2 separate pharmacies today. I'm pretty much stocked up until December of 2014, now. Of course, I'll go to my gyno twice a year, as usual, but with birth control, I would hate to have to go every other month. I've never had a doctor write a prescription for more than a 2 month supply, here, so I'm just taking precautions. |

July? Where did you get that information from? Because it doesn't mention the date in the article? (Or does it? I may just be reading it wrong or something...)
Its just that I heard this was going to come into effect from January 2013. If it really is going to be next month then I need to start stocking up!
EDIT: This article from the Korea Herald says 'from as early as next year,' and the article was written only a couple of weeks ago. So hopefully its not going to start as early as next month. Hopefully!

It says the plan will be finalized in July. It may not go into effect for a while, but I'd rather take precautions. Things often happen last minute here. |

Exactly! Even for allergy medicine... I told them I had seasonal allergies and would need it for at least three months... "Here's enough for 15 days... if you're not better then, come back" |

Ah ok, sorry. I didn't see that. I think I am going to start stockpiling now then, just in case. |

Yeah, apparently they aren't doing it yet. I have a stockpile for until the end of 2014. Then we'll look into surgical procedures. |
