Will be useful to people in Southern Incheon - especially the Songdo area - which is a whole other (highly modern) downtown in itself now. I don't see how it benefits Oido very much looking at that map, or Suwon for that matter. |

Great access to subways = large swaths of land being turned into apartment complexes = more unnecessary urban development
win-win-win |

Just another subway extension further out. It will still take forever to get into Seoul. |

2012 is a big year for rail transport around the country, with several extensions and new lines to be opened, many towards the end of the year. |
What other subway lines will open this year? |

Songdo is boring. I can see why no one wants to live there. |

I agree. It looks a bit like the city from Tron Legacy. It's not my cup of tea. It's also very flat as it's reclaimed land. |

There has also been some controversy over the name of the line saying it should be named the Insu (인수) Line due to the fact that more of the stations are located in Incheon. |
Of course there's controversy. I didn't even realize Suin was supposed to be a portmanteau of sorts. |

Agreed. Suin is useless without express trains. |

Having lived in Song Do for over a year now I can honestly say I would never live anywhere else (in Korea).
Not at all boring. I think anyone who says its boring has never actually been here, at least not in the last year or so. |

The line should be open. Has anyone ridden it? |

I rode it to transfer to line 4 in Oido for Surisan (which was previously not possible). Everything runs smoothly. There's a nice view for during parts of the ride as well.
The depiction of the Songdo on the TV screens in the train cars is completely ridiculous though. They could have shown real shots of Songdo (which is actually pretty nice) instead of fake images of an imaginary utopia. |

Do we need to bring up Cohiba's rule or something? Who cares about getting into Seoul on that line? It's not designed for that. Previously, if someone lived south, they had to head north to Guro, then transfer to head west to Incheon. NOW, they can bypass all that headache and take the train from Suwon instead (or at least when it's completely finished.
I could have used this line last week - I needed to get to Gyeonggi Science College, near the end of line 4, but I live on the Seoul Line 1, Incheon branch. I simply rode my motorcycle, but in the past I had to go to Guro, then down to Geumjeong, then out to the end of the line - a long, out of the way path. The time is cut in half.
Long story short, the line is not designed for getting people into Seoul, so why act like it is? |

Yeah, a fast train would be nice.
I thought there are such plans because 2 years ago I saw some work done at Sangnoksu Stn. on the outer tracks and that part of the platforms.
Between Geumjeong and Oido it would be pretty easy to run express trains with a well arranged schedule. A couple of stations have double sided platforms and 4 tracks which would allow the express train to pass the regular ones.
It would be nice to have the Dongincheon Rapid departing from Yongsan and running almost an entire circle say to Sadang. Or better yet all the way to Yongsan.
I wonder though if this new extension will require transferring at Oido or the same train that comes from Sadang (or Songdo) runs all the way to the other end. Im guessing it is the former. I'll find it out tomorrow going down that way (just till Oido). |
