|
|
I have an interview with a private school soon. I requested some information regarding taxes and other wage deductions. I was provided with a list which included the standard national pension and medical insurance. However, also included was 11,250 won per month for "Employment Insurance." The employer supposedly pays the other half/11,250 won per month.
Anyway, is this legitimate?
(I was also told that income taxes would be 3.3%. I already plan to address this since I have read threads concerning this issue.) |

Normally your employer is not required to pay "employment insurance" on your behalf as an E2 teacher, so you should not pay half.
As an employee, your income tax withholding should be according to the NTS tax website. |

F visa holders must pay, and apparently can legally receive the benefits (although I have my doubts). |

This is true.
E-2 visa holders do not have to pay it as they cannot claim it. |

IF you are on an E-class visa you are exempt since you can never collect (your visa and right to remain in Korea is tied to your employment; no employment = no visa = no right or ability to collect.)
The labor office can clear that up for your employer and verify your exempt status from employment insurance.

F visa holders are indeed supposed to pay it, although there are many cases of the employer being unaware of this and the F visa employee concerned either also being unaware or not raising the issue.

May I ask why you have doubts? Have you or someone you know had trouble getting that money? |

I recently applied for another job and I was asked by the administrator if I had Employment Insurance and Industrial accident insurance.
After speaking to the HR division at my current hagwon they said that I did have the Industrial Accident Insurance but not Employment Insurance because as a foreign worker I was ineligible for it.
The job I was applying for explained that I was unable to apply for the position because I didn't have the employment insurance - but I'm ineligible for it so it's impossible for me to have it.
I'm a little bit confused. Has someone (either my current job or the job I was applying for) made a mistake? I'm currently on an E-2 |

Maybe they were thinking of national health insurance. |

That's possible, but I asked for the Korean name just to be sure which he said was 고용보험 and that without it the school wouldn't be able to hire me because it's against the law!? |
