I've been watching the job boards the past few months and I've been a bit surprised at the lack of university jobs that have been advertised for this Fall. Seems like very few places are hiring, most of them outside of Seoul, and the pay at the places hiring in Seoul is mostly laughable.

Anybody got any idea what's up? I thought Fall was the more major of the two main hiring seasons - if this is the case, the showing this Fall doesn't bode well for the coming Spring.

Actually, the university school year starts in March, so the main hiring season is in January-February.
Though there is always a heap load the first weeks of March when last minute plans change.

Most good universities (defined by pay, location, and working conditions) start accepting apps for fall positions in late March or early April, and are done interviewing in May. March positions are more numerous, and are often sought during late September early October, with interviews occurring in November, and sometimes into early December. Anything else is usually desperation due to someone backing out or leaving (or getting busted, or injured...).

no, you weren't misinformed - you misunderstood.

the hiring is in the fall (Oct-Nov) for the spring semester.

No, I got that part. Smile I'm not sure where the breakdown was, but I'm glad to have it straight now. I was fortunate to get one of those fairly good last-minute university jobs this past February, but want to get a better one if possible next Spring.

How do you get one if you don't have 2 years of previous university experience?

It's a TESOL teacher training program, not for-credit classes, unfortunately. That's the part I am a bit concerned about for the future.
