Hi, I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice.
The harddrive in my 2006 black macbook recently died, and I have purchased and installed a new one, however i am unable to boot it as the DVD drive is broken and i dont have the original discs. (yeah propably time to just buy a new computer). Anyway, i've been to a number of the apple places in yongsan to see if they could install the os using a flash drive or something, no one could help me.
Do you think its worth taking it to one of the official Apple AS centers?

Also, chances are I will only be able to find a bootable usb of snow leopard, rather than leopard, which my macbook was running. If boot and install snow leopard, will I still be able to restore my system using time machine, considering the original hd and backups were running Leopard (10.5).

Anyway, if anyone has any advice or has been in a similar situation in Korea, please let me know... I'm really not that tech savvy (one of the reasons i like the simplicity of macs).. and will appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks!

Is your macbook out of warranty? if yes, the official apple AS center? I doubt it.

The independent repair shops (I know one place near Jamsil) they will charge 40,000 - 70,000 won for a clean Mac OS install (approx. 1-2hrs)

or search for "install Mac OS from a USB drive" on the web.

hope it helps.
