Some people were telling me that once I get married I will automatically get insurance or can apply for insurance through my husband? Does anyone know how to apply for that or how that goes into effect? Do I need to be on the F-6 visa first? I currently have no insurance because my job took out life insurance on me instead of health insurance... Any help would be great! Thanks!

I know that my wife was covered under my university's policy after we got married, she continued under it while pregnant, and both she and my son still use it instead of her company's now that she works again. Keep in mind, I'm foreign and she's Korean. I don't see why it should be any more difficult for you. I have no concrete evidence, an obvious death sentence on this board, but I'd assume the visa does play into it.

You dont get automatically, you should request it. Your spouse can go to the nearest pension office and have it sorted out. A marriage certificate (Korean) will be necessary but Im not sure about your visa. Its best to wait until you have it and do it than.
I remember that my wife needed some document from the local dong office but they had a hard time issuing it because the usual he is a foreigner so I cant give you this paper In the end we got it and it was pretty easy to set it up.
If your spouse has a full time job and his/her insurance is properly paid by both the employer and him/her than adding a spouse will not cost any extra.
Korean nationals must have the most basic insurance and when they are unemployed they will automatically move on to self payment. It depends on a couple of factors: property-car etc, ownership and even jeonse but without much assets it should cost somewhere around 20,000/month. You can be linked to that one too but in that case the monthly payment will be raised slightly (maybe an extra 10,000/month)
If your spouse gets employee insurance when you are linked to it and than later moves onto self payment for whatever reason, make sure to call the pension office and check if you also have insurance still. As I wrote, its automatic in the case of your spouse but usually not with the linked spouses, especially when they are not Koreans.

Why did your school get your life insurance? What does it say in your contract?

If you're on an E2 visa then you should push your boss to get you on national health insurance.

If you are having a baby and are low income there are all sorts of programs available. But if you join your husbands insurance and he isn't low income you might become ineligible.

We did that, my wife was ineligible. They wouldn't consider her separately:(

They told me they were going to get "private insurance" rather than public... I guess all the teachers before me just never gave it a second thought, but I sat down with the salesman and found out that it was life insurance... So, if I die or go to the hospital for 4+ consecutive days... money time! >.<

I'm out in three months so... just biding my time *sigh*
