happiness--I've met some locals who are REALLY into sneakers- mostly at a couple different sneaker events/parties.
Personally, I don't think its too hard to spot those who are interested in kicks. I don't necessarily search them out, but I don't think they're to hard to spot; the majority of them do seem to be quite a bit younger(university-mid 20's). However, I'm sure there are a lot of them who are just looking to make a profit by re-selling.
Sure, Japan will always be tops in terms of sneakers/sneakerheads, but there is defintely a large and growing sneaker culture here.
Again, if there are some people interested, I'll set something up in the next few weeks where we can meet up and grab some drinks. |
Yeah, keep me posted. I'm always down to talk about sneakers. |
Korea's really interesting when it comes to sneakerhead culture. Just about everyone wears them but it's always one of the following:
1. Nike running shoe (Free Runs/Lunarglides/Lunareclipse)
2. New Balance 574 (usually mint color)
3. Reebok Instapump Fury
So not a lot of diversity here but in places like Hongdae and Itaewon I do see more locals wearing various kinds of sneakers. A couple weeks ago I was wearing my 2011 Concords and this worker at a random shoe store in Hongdae struck up a conversation with me about Jordans in general. The locals that are really into sneakers are around (albeit not many) but as you guys said, it's usually pretty easy to spot them.
Also, the USA Air Force 180s (Barkleys) came out last Saturday. I thought they looked pretty good but unfortunately I have to be more selective about my purchases for now. Hopefully the rest of the USA pack releases soon! |

Yea I noticed that sneaker culture was prevalent here almost immediately.
It's awesome. This however has it's drawback, specifically because these sneakerheads line up for every release making it a bit more difficult to get certain shoes. The first time I tried to a pair of Jordan's were back in 09 when the Asia Release Only Retro True Blue III's released. There were tons of 20 something Korean dudes already lined up when I got to the shop.
What is cool about Korea though is that certain shoes are available far after they are released. The Nike stores near me here in Gangdong each have different pairs. The one near Cheonho station has the Black/Silver Jordan V's. The other one has the Chicago X's. Pretty awesome I think. The problem is you can't know what store will get what shoe and when they will be available. |

At DDM, there's a guy in the basement of GOOD MORNING or whatever the building is called and he sells kicks. He's had some decent SB's, some Jordans too. Problem back at home are all the hypebeasts and the incessant lines that come along with ANY new release. You can't get foams these days unless you're willing to camp/wait in a long line.
I'm eager to go back home for a bit. My friend works at the Nike HQ in Beaverton and does their website stuff. He gets me a ton of passes and he'll order me stuff from his swoosh account.
Your head would spin if I told you about the 'sales' Nike gives their employees. Practically giving away a ton of stuff.
Lately though, I don't even wear Nikes or anything. I still love J's, SB's, etc, but I feel like I've grown out of that phase. Don't get me wrong, I still love seeing them and wear my foams here and there, but it's not for me. I'm usually around in some Docs these days. |

Haha yeah I have heard stories about the "discounts" the corporate employees get beyond the Swoosh accounts.
When I read the stories and see pictures people post on NT or ISS I feel lucky that we don't have to deal with those levels of hypebeasts, stupidity, and drama that comes with just about every release nowadays. That being said, Seoul is no longer a cakewalk either, especially when it comes to Jordans. If your Korean is good enough it's definitely worth trying to build some friendships with store employees or guys that are in the inner-circle that show up to just about every release. |

No official word which is pretty strange given the release date is 7/7 in the US. I'm going to assume it's being released on Saturday and go early morning, if they release then great. If not, i'll just buy myself a hearty American style breakfast. |

Anyone here able to get the VI's this morning? I went to Itaewon this morning @ 5:30 and was 15 in line. I think the line grew to about 100. I think the materials are better quality but the paint job along the midsole on my pair is horrendous. Bad news that the Air More Uptempos will NOT be released here but that's okay, as i'll now be waiting for the VII's to complete my own olympic pack |

| Well I saw the twitter/facebook post that Hoop City and House of Hoops posted on Friday evening. I wasn't able to make it out in the morning to line up. Fortunately my girlfriend in Canada was able to get a pair for me. God bless her. |

Any new purchases lately?
I've been trying to cut back. Saw the Air Safari LE Mesh Pack released here, but couldn't find the black/blue in a 12. |
