There a many things we can do. We can get what we want and we can accept nothing or what the school gives.

I choose to get what I want. Don't like it? Tough. You can have a pot or pink rice cooker then.

I don't understand why you feel a need to argue this issue when I got what I wanted. It's rather silly.

It's funny that you'd get so upset over a rice cooker. God forbid it's pink. It will cramp your style.

No, I'm not arguing. The point I was making is that it's wise to wait until a bridge has seen some use before you start burning it.

LOL

What is the point of this? I signed a 1 year contract, actually the last one was 14 months and I did 13.

Are you telling me teachers shouldn't change schools after a year? What business is it of yours if I go to a new school or re-sign for another year? I prefer to move to a new area and meet new people.

How many lame attacks will it take for a moderator to put you guys in your place?

Yes, I am guilty of working one year contracts and moving to another school. You got me Confused You figured out my master plan.

Where did I say I got upset? I said I prefer non-pink rice cookers. Generally, I prefer non-pink products altogether. You got me, I am guilty of having color preferences.

When I go to stores, oh my gosh, I select products partially based on color. Is this really that crazy and funny of a concept? You don't like preferences?

If the bridge is being built and the costs and time are the same or less for the school, then what difference does it make if I go to the store and buy the rice cooker instead of them?

Yes, you got me there. I am guilty of spending 1/3 the money they were willing to pay for a rice cooker. I got the cheapest one so it didn't cost them much. I went out and got it instead of having them go buy it.

What on earth is so bad about this?

When the other teacher came and moved in, his computer only had 512 mb of RAM. So, I swapped the one they gave me with 1gb of RAM and had Windows already installed. I put linux on the 512 MB RAM computer and now we have 3 working computers.

The school thanked me and now respect us both for requesting what we wanted. And we worked it out without going to some labor board or calling cops. You worry about your own bridges, you don't need to babysit mine.

I have a good working relationship with the people who hired me, and I have never been fired. We have always made mutual arrangements to part and I got what I was owed. One school even got a replacement teacher and paid me for the rent money if I would leave because the new teacher was handicapped and needed to be close to the school.

I've heard that rice cooked in the red ones tastes better.

It has nothing to do with taste. Troglodyte, can you please give this up? You do this constantly. You post making stabs at me.

What can I do so you stop? I would like to come here and post without your attacks.

People do choose items partly based on color. If you go to a clothes store you can choose a shirt in various colors and pick the color you prefer.

It has nothing to do with being better. Are you really that indifferent to color choices you don't see why someone would do this?

Again, I think you have no problem with people choosing products partly based on color. Something is making you want to attack my comments instead of addressing the topic.

If I were on another account and made the same kind of posts, you wouldn't be acting like this. There is a specific reason why you are singling this account out.

So, again, I am going ask you nicely to knock it off. If you don't like me, that's fine. You don't need to communicate with me, and you don't need to use my comments as a basis for conversation with others.

Either treat me with a little more respect or just ignore me entirely. Can you do that?

it's not Trog that's disrespectful here *newsflash* it's your "my way or the highway" kind of remarks (I hesitate to call it advice) towards posters, many whom are inexperienced or have little experience, much less the wisdom of maturity - which put off so many people

the remarks about year here and a year there refer to an attitude about burning bridges, building walls, instead of the other way around, which seems to be your M.O.

quite frankly, after reading most of your posts I'd hate to be one of your teaching associates - I think you actually make it difficult not just for foreign teachers, but any foreigner in Asia.

here's a tip - not that I expect you to listen or take heed - but not everything is about YOU and what YOU would do or have done. it's about the person that is doing the posting and what is best for THEM and their particular situation.

other people like Trog do actually try and facilitate the situation. I offer stories regarding my own situation and what I did or did not do that was or was not successful. people can make their own choice. you, on the other hand, tell people what they MUST do or else ...?

it's offensive to many here. really it is.

Not to pile on, but I agree. I worked with some folks with similar attitudes when I first started in Korea. It was my first real job and they were a lot older than me, so I took their attitudes to be an acceptable prevailing norm. Really, it didn't make my work life any easier and it made my employers think I was kind of a pain in the ass. Now, I ended up figuring things out and extending twice with the same school, but this inherently adversarial approach to work relations can be a particularly negative and potentially destructive influence on younger, less experienced teachers, while simultaneously making managers less likely to bouncer into future negotiations with an open mind.

I finished my contract on Tuesday. In the week previous to my finish I spoke with my boss many times to ensure he was aware that I am leaving, require my final pay, severance etc. All along he was saying "ok don't worry I will pay you on Friday and you can move out Saturday.".

You have to visit your local National Pension Service (NPS) Office on your way out of country. They will request your bank routing and account numbers. Be sure to grab the business card of the person who helped you in case there are problems later. You money will arrive a while after you are back in your own country -- I don't know what the legal amount of time is as mine took a few months. I didn't get mine until after I emailed the NPS person that helped me before.
