Hi all,

After arriving, I will need internet immediately as I am taking an online class. Is it easy to get signed up for internet once I arrive? I am hoping someone from my school will help , but I am just curious.
Thank you, B

Not that easy. You need a bank account which you'll have to set up, plus you need to change your money and put it in that account, and you might also need your ARC card. However, just go to a PC Bang and do it. It's like 1000 won/hour and they're usually not too crowded during the day.

Or go to a cafe that has wifi. Lots of Korean students go to cafe's to study. Some even have a quiet room for this purpose.

Setting up a bank account isn't hard. You only need your passport. They'll set it up right there on the spot.

Are you renting a place yourself? Or will you be staying in accommodation provided by your employer?

Depending on the type of neighborhood and the housing, chances are you will have at least one strong enough wifi signal that is not password protected.

Are you going to be at a public school or hagwon? Both of the hagwons I've worked at already had internet set up at the apartment when I arrived.

At the first school it was in my director's name and so you were just given a bill every month. At the school I'm currently working, the person I replaced already had it set up in her apartment and didn't cancel it before leaving....just settled up with bills and we carried on with whatever contract she had.

Not sure if this is typical or not but it was convenient....

Basically, it depends on how many neighbors do you have within wifi range. If you live in a neighborhood where you can nearly touch the building next door than you will have plenty of routers within working range. The more routers the better chances there are some unprotected.

Or alternatively, check if you see any of these networks on your computer and try the password. It works. Cool
