A question about the work experience points for the points-style F series visa.
I was a manager and director at a large video game company for 5 years in Canada before coming to Korea.. Have a computer science degree, my main reason for coming here is a move from the CDN/US video game industry to the Korean video game industry.
I am on an E2 temporarily until I get an F-series visa, at which point I will look at getting into the large (and growing) game industry here in Korea.
Someone mentioned the work experience needs to be related to what I am doing in Korea. I wonder though, does it need to be related to what I *am* doing, or what I *will* do?
If it needs to be related to what I am doing now, then everyone applying from an E2 to the points visa can only use teaching experience.
To me, it would seem that the work experience and education points are all about "If we give you the F series visa, show us what skills/experience you can bring to the country" in which case, my experience would seem valid? |

Of course, really this is a discussion to be had with immigration so, I will call the hotline tomorrow and update this thread with what I learn. |

Ah, as well, for anyone who has successfully claimed these points, I am curious what document is required.
Record of Employment Letter with company letter head? The standard, start/end dates and title/role..
Of course, my letter is in English so, requirements for it to be translated?
Something else? |

I spoke with the immigration hotline folks today. The work experience points are not quite so cut and dry as the income and age points.
I explained that I am on an E2 teaching Visa, and the person on the line was interested to know details of my degree type, how large the video game company was in Canada, he asked me the name of the company (which he recognized)..
With the full background story, the person on the line was confident (but of course could not guarantee) that my experience would count towards the points.
So, it seems a bit subjective, the officers likely need to look at the big picture and exactly at what the experience is - and what it will mean to 'Korea'. |
