Subject says it all. I've never watched it, so I have no idea what it's like.
We have a Friends DVD box set at my school. I might show an episode during my classes next week since it's the last week of school. |

The kids at my all-boys high school certainly do, even if they haven't seen it before.
Make sure you remember to put the Korean subtitles on! |

When you were 16-18, how did you like TV shows that were 10-15 years old?
That being said, ALL HS students (and MS/elem) enjoy watching videos over regular class.
As Richard says, make sure you put the subtitles on though, otherwise interest wane almost immediately. |

The language used in friends is extremely hard to understand for non-native speakers, not to mention the speed at which they talk. So are your students at a very high level? I doubt it.
Maybe show a small funny clip. Then give them the script for that funny clip. Then discuss what was funny. Then have a group discussion about what funny things happened to them.
An entire episode would be hard to endure. That's my two penny piece. |

During our "holiday" (post-exam) week at my HS, I usually show The Simpsons. I teach all boys and they love it. Modern Family has also been a huge hit. But I'm sure Friends would be fine, too. |

Where did you get The Simpsons with subtitles? Online? |

Hi all, this is my first post on Dave's so guess I should say a 'hello' to everyone.
Anyway... Friends. I showed it to my high school students the week after the end-of-term exams but have to say it didn't go down well at all. I teach at an all girls school and thought they might enjoy it, but even with Korean subtitles their interest waned after a few of minutes and they didn't find it that funny either. Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel(!) was more to their liking. Not sure what to make of that. |

Exactly, it's a show that's over a decade old. Kids are interested in what's popular NOW. Not what was big in the 90s. Sitcoms like HIMYM, or The Big Bang Theory will get a far more positive reaction. |

I'd be wary of showing a show like Friends to high school students because of all the sexual references, innuendoes, etc. I'm not naive enough to think that none of them are having sex, but I wouldn't want to be the one to explain what the slang surrounding the topic means in the classroom. |

So you're saying a show like Archer would be a good compromise? |
