|
|
Hello
Has anyone heard of a one-year hagwon contract being extended by one month? In other words, teaching one more month after fulfilling a one year contract. If so, can you tell me how it works?
Is a new, one-month contract drawn up? Does a typical school balk at this proposal because it's a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy just for the sake of a month?
Or do people work without a contract for another month?
Thanks much for any info. |

I'm pretty sure you need a contract in order to get your visa extended, and even if you don't, you should have one drawn up anyway to be on the safe side. Plenty of hagwons do one month extensions, but whether you're will really depends on the specific circumstances of the institute at that point in time. |

Just write up a one page addendum that says your current contract is being extended with no changes until (end date; period from 1-365 days).
Signed, stamped, dated and witnessed and it is all you need for a short extension.
Go to immigration with:
passport
ARC
new contract (addendum)
application form
guarantee form (sponsorship)
copy of business registration
fee (30k won).
Takes about 15 minutes at the counter.

yeah, I've done it - not a problem at all - I even wrote out the addendum myself. |

How does severance payment work in this case? Do I have the option of requesting it after either 12 or 13 months? If so and I request it after 12 months, will I forfeit the 13th month of severance pay? |

If you take it at month 12 you forfeit month 13.
You are entitled to 13/12 of a month's salary if you do not take it at month 12 but at your typical hagwan you will probably have to go through the labor board to get that 13th month included.
