Who would've thought that a simple question-based thread would turn into childish bickering so quickly...
OP, your options have been outlined. Mods, perhaps lock it. |

They aren't normal subway cars, genius; ridership is much lower and you put your bags on the floor. It's shocking that they would consider such things when making a train line to the airport. This isn't the first time you've gone on about something you're clueless about (NPS at the airport, Austin, etc.), I'm sure it won't be the last. |
case in point: I take a taxi from my home, put bags in taxi. taxi stops at airpoirt bus stop. I take bags out of taxi, move 3 feet over to stop. wait for bus.
why on earth would anyone - except a glutton for punishment - want to get off at Seoul Stn and lug bags for hundreds of feet up and down escalators, thru walkways and a terminal??
it's called wasted motion, a new concept for you, I imagine. I can relax on the bus listening to music and reading while you are huffing and puffing. go ahead. I really could care less. |
If one were to take KTX to Seoul Station, it makes a lot more sense to take AREX than it does to take a bus, as there is significantly less effort involved. I fail to understand why you consistently post incorrect or incomplete information in threads where people are asking for advice. |

According to this article: http://news.heraldm.com/view.php?ud=20120404000472&md=20120404102912_C it says that there will be thru services from Major Cities in Korea to Incheon International Airport starting in 2013. So for someone like me who lives in Daejeon, I would much rather take the train as it would be quite a bit faster than bus and just as convenient.
But, at least right now, I still prefer the bus as I don't have to make any transfers. |

you said it yourself, if the person takes the train -
*newsflash* it's not the only way - some people take the bus
it's not that revolutionary, it's kind of large, has many wheels, sort of like a car only bigger.
now run along and go troll someone else, 'k? |

I'm sure we would all do that if we weren't lowly ESL teachers on a budget.

If you're taking the KTX to Seoul Station, you'll do more lugging if you catch the bus than transfer to the Airport Railroad. Unless you have huge suitcases with no wheels and/or are incredibly out of shape, it's not difficult to go through these walk-ways or up escalators (which move everything for you).

I agree, riding the bus is more comfortable in general. I think it's dumb that the airport train in Korea has all its seating aligned as side-ways facing benches like subways in the city. In Bangkok and Hong Kong the airport train has seats that face forwards or backwards, which is much more relaxing and makes it easier to look out the window.
It's still nice, however, being on a train on which you know the exact time of arrival, rather than risk traffic congestion on the bus. |

I was under the impression that the context of this discussion was a question of what the next step should be for a person who takes the KTX to Seoul and wants to go to the airport. |

Correcting you isn't trolling you (yet, again, you accuse other posters of trolling whenever they do so). Jonpurdy said to take AREX from the airport, you chimed in saying not to using false, unfounded reasoning. Taking the bus from Ulsan might well be the best option, but that's not what's at issue here, as you claimed that AREX was inferior in terms of getting from Seoul Station to Incheon, which doesn't make sense if someone is taking KTX (which is what we were talking about, as shown below). Again, awfully similar to your flippant dismissal of there being an NPS booth at the airport.

Yep. It's 2 hours and 20 mins from Ulsan station to Seoul Station. However, it's like 20 minutes or more (much more by bus) from most places to Ulsan Station out in Eonyang. It's also another 35 minutes from Seoul Station to ICN. Plus the travel and waiting time for all of these things.
Alternatively, you can take a bus from the bus terminal next to Lotte department store that goes directly from downtown Ulsan to ICN airport. If I recall, it's around 25K won and takes about five hours. |

| definitely don't take the subway from Seoul Station which is what the local train is - too long and slow and you'll be lugging your bags, etc. |

If you take the KTX to Seoul Station and you have luggage, you're going to have to lug it anyway you look at it.
Either up the stairs, down the stairs and then across the street to the bus terminal....or to the escalator for the Express train.
Personally, after missing a flight because of traffic issues...I'm only using the two express trains (the 9 Line gets you from Central City Express Bus terminal to Gimpo in like 27 minutes!) as they're fast, clean, comfortable and reliable.
If you're using Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, or Jeju Air, you can also check your bags in at Seoul Station for international flights. |
