Italian pizza is like Chinese noodles: they came from there, but others perfected it. It isn't even like Americans changed the recipeNew York pizza was "created" bu Italian immigrants who wanted to create a cheap meal with familiar ingredients, rather than the appetizer that pizza was back home.

On a side note: I have ricotta cheese, so am thinking of making a clam pizza today. Yum!

What the hell are you talking about? Who has perfected Chinese noodles other than the Chinese? This has to be one of the dumber things that I have read in a while.

Are you just pretending to be dense? Some of the earliest references to noodles were in China. It moved west. The Arabs brought it to Sicily in the 7th or 8th century. I'm fairly sure that Italians make some amazing pasta dishes.

Ummm...yeah, okay. New Yorkers perfected pizza and Italians perfected Chinese noodles. Rolling Eyes Thanks for the history lesson anyway, MOTO.

I've met some people who told me New York pizza is better than Italian pizza. I never had either so I don't know.

Not really regions, but if we're still talking about food, there are some valid points to be made there.

Just the pizza and bagels. People are people, wherever you go. When it comes to pizza and bagels, however, I'm prepared for fisticuffs. Wink

I know some people selling dokbokki (non-franchise, street cart) only a few nights per week and they make some good money. They do have to pay rent to the mafia but it is less than paying for renting a restaurant.

I'd guess this is actually a pretty good investment. Maybe not a Kiss Bang per se, but another type of room in the sexual service industry, like an Anma-bang, show room, etc. Not sure how a waygook would go about opening one of these though.

My friend works for the sex tourism industry here, all she does is answer phones (they set up businessmen coming from Japan or whatever) and she is rolling in dough in her early 20s. It's not even her business, she is just a secretary kind of person. The first time I met her she took me out for $140 of Korean beef and hardly ate a thing.

I'd even sell guns. Of course Korean law probably prohibits anyone actually taking their fire arm off the range, so they'd have to leave it locked up with me.

Probably be pretty hard to do without full citizenship. Even with full citizenship I think it would be impossible to do, legally (the selling part). The range might be more doable, in someone else's name.

The only people I met with guns were really rich. I remember a very wealthy man gave my friend and I some weed from his golf bag, and he said "Check my glovebox. If I ever get in trouble for this you guys are dead meat."

Bring it on!

Real Italian pizza is better than anywhere else in the world. Copper pipe water or not, New York just doesn't have the quality of fresh produce that they do in Italy.

I don't care about bagels. Very Happy

Why not open a Girlie bar like the European foreigners do in Thailand? Doesn't that bother these people at all?

New York State has an abundance of farms. Check out the huge farmers' market at Union Square, amongst countless others. Put up your dukes! <<assumes fisticuffs stance>>

no evidence of this that the Arabs were the first to bring pasta to Italy. there is some speculation they brought a form of dried pasta to trade. the maccoroni.

but there is evidence that pasta was actually first created in ROME in BC times.
the chinese did not invent pasta they might have invested rice noodles! the Romans were already making pasta sheets, lasagna, mixing flour with water and cutting them into different shapes and sizes.
the Chinese were eating rice noodles in bowls, Chinese noodles and Italian spaghetti are two completely different things.

I don't think an Italian guy had to go to china to figure out to mix flour and water together to make pasta. Italians built the colleseum I am sure they figured out how to mix flour and water and then cut it up and eat it long before the arabs or marco polo told them how.

no one is saying new york or even california doesn't produce great fresh produce. but when it comes to Buffalo milk, I am sorry USA has still yet to produce anything even close to mozzerella d buffalo of campania.
also when we speak of tomatos, in the pizza business there is only one true tomato which stands out among the rest.
and that's true San marzano grown in the volcanic ash of mt Vesuvius

the flour most Pizza joints making true napolitan pies will use probably
Caputo you can't beat the fineness of the 00 flour, the flour is so high grade and designed for wood burning ovens. 200 years of perfection.
so with the flour, the cheese, the tomatos coming from campania (naples area) you can see why true napolitan Pizza is without a doubt the best in the world!

ohhh and you want to talk about water.. don't worry, Naples has amazing water too which really helps the bread, coffee and pizza.

sorry, but when we talk about pizza I am really passionate about it.
7 years working in an Italian Pizza joint rubbed off on me.
not to mention the Italian owner who drilled it into my head everyday that Italian pizza was the best hahahaha

Lasagna and noodles are not the same thing. The idea of long, thin-stranded noodles came from the east. It was then perfected (many believe, at least) in Italy.

Either way, back on track:

I'd like to open up a baking hagwon in Gangnam. Donate all proceeds from the baked goods to a children's charity. Rich moms could have lattes and scones at the cafe area, while their kids learned to bake in English.
