So Greenpeace and the Whale Wars are doing all of this over concerns about maritime boundaries, not because whales are getting killed?

If it is about whales being killed, boundaries shouldn't matter.

Wouldn't it be relevant to know whether the minke whale is actually endangered or not? I haven't been able to find any reliable source making that claim. On the other hand the International Whaling Commission themselves have said that limited commercial fishing of whale is sustainable.

By 1992, the northeastern Atlantic minke whale stock had grown to approximately 87,000 whales. The Norwegian quota is based on 0.2 percent of the stock with a 2 percent growth rate per year. By 1993, the IWC Scientific Committee unanimously concluded that the minke whale population had recovered to the point that Norway could resume traditional coastal whaling. Yet despite the scientific data available, the ICW decided to continue the moratorium on hunting of all species of whales, even though the ICRW requires that quotas be based on scientific methods.
