Hi all.

Can't use search function for some reason, but I was wondering if...

...a Subject Access Form is acceptable when applying for an E2 visa, instead of the basic check from Disclosure Scotland? I can't remember which I did last time, but I don't want to go through the process of notarisation and apostille only to find out a SAF isn't sufficient and that they only accept stuff from D Scotland.

Thanks for any info,
eid Very Happy

Disclosure Scotland seems to be the favourite now. That's what I used last month with no dramas.

Thanks mate.

Out of interest, did you have one check, or two?

I paid 10 for a Subject Access Request from my local Police Force (Nottinghamshire) in February earlier this year and I had no problems getting my E2 in June.

Mine was a subject access, but it was over 18 months ago now.

Thanks for this Brez...I think I'll get the Subject Access as it's cheaper and seems kind of easier to get. I heard it takes anything up to 40 days to arrive, but I'm not in that much of a hurry.

Thanks for the info Very Happy

The thing with SAR is that it's only a matter of time before somebody in Korea realises it's not an actual national police check. It is intended for you to see what details the police systems hold about you

The disclosure Scotland is also better if you had a slight moment of madness in your late teens that meant getting a Police Caution. SAR would show this up but the basic disclosure would not.

If you're a registered voter you don't even need any form of supporting docs or anything to get the Disclosure Scotland check. Literally I just put my name in, paid the 25 quid or whatever, and the check came 4 days later.

You can also ask for your basic disclosure to be notarised [sic] but they often overlook this request so you need to chase them up.

In my case the public notary charged 80 for his time no matter how many documents I needed doing so I just took my CRB there.

Obviously a sensible choice if you've got plenty of time.

However, just bear in mind that that's 40 working days, which is effectively about 2 months. And when I got one a few years ago, that was exactly how long it took.

80 pounds???? You mean just for signing the document? Am I reading this wrong or something?

Because my solicitor charged me a fiver for each document. One time it was a fiver for all documents. The public notary = solicitor? Or am I just being dense? (Wouldn't be the first time to be honest.) Because that seems way too expensive!

There are Public Notaries who charge a lot more than everyday Solicitors for doing the same job.

I think Legalisation and Notarisation are two different things but in essence they end up with same result.

In my case I couldn't find a Solicitor in the Teesside area to do the cheaper options so I had to find a Public Notary.

I did end up with two very nicely bound documents with pretty ribbons and a red wax seal on top. The apostille stamp from the FCO watch attached to the back of the seal.
