I want to buy a tablet when I go home (USA) for a week to give to my Korean (English/Korean fluent) gf. What tablets could I buy in the U.S that would work here in Korea? Something simple to use, cheap, can get a reasonable amount of apps, wireless internet etc. She'd probably use it mainly for reading magazines, playing a few games, watching some shows on her commute to work. Pros/cons of each?

Thanks. I'm researching around but not finding any definite answers.

Nexus 7 would be my choice... if available.

Good reviews, relatively cheap, plenty of Android apps, wifi.

I was pretty much set on buying one of these. The more I think about it though, the lack of SD card option is a problem. I can't see myself buying that much content, and I'll want to load my own content onto it - mostly music - that I already own/torrented. Will this be possible, do you think?

If you have a huge music collection, space could be an issue. For me it's not, especially since I never listen to music on my iPad (I don't own an Android tablet currently). If I wanted to listen to music, I'll use my Android smartphone since I always have that on me or near me. I don't take my iPad out with me everywhere I go.

However, when I first got my 16gb iPad, I wanted to load up a few movies and several whole seasons of TV shows, but I quickly ran out of storage. Realistically though, I would never consume that much viewing in one week, let alone one sitting. So I adjusted my use and now usually keep 1 or 2 movies along with half a dozen TV episodes, and I have plenty of storage to spare.

Your usage will likely be different than mine, so only you can decide if the lack of SD storage is a deal breaker.

Personally, I dislike iTunes. I much prefer connecting my Android smartphone to my computer, having it recognized as a drive, and just copying over my media files. I assume the Nexus 7 works the same way as my smartphone in this regard. So to answer your question, no it shouldn't be a problem to load your own content (whether it be music or video).

With the price this low, I can cope with the annoyance of only being able to load a couple of movies or TV shows or albums at a time. I just wondered that, with Google so obviously pushing their Google Play system with the Nexus 7, they may have restricted the ability to drag and drop media onto the device. I've tried to look online and not found any answers.

The other issue for me is the (rumoured) upcoming iPad mini/nano/whatever. It may come out this year, and if it had a decent back camera (the Nexus doesn't have any) it may be a better option for me. Decisions, decision.

Still no word on a release date for the Nexus?

I have a Galaxy Nexus which also doesn't have expandable memory.
If you're worried about storage for music, use Google Music. As of right now, they offer 20000 songs of free cloud storage, so as long as you have an active internet connection, you can stream them all you want.
If you won't have an active internet connection, you can just sync certain albums to your device before you head out.

Total rookie question, but if I buy an Ipad or another tablet with 3G/4G, I have to pay for another data plan, in addition to my smart phone?

Yes, but why would you. You can just use your phone as hotspot. Waste of money getting 2 plans.

If you're worried about getting 4G LTE and run out of data, you can get 3G data plan top of the 4G. Soon as you use up the 4G data limit, it'll switch to 3G data for extra 20k won. This is what my friend told me he did this since he uses way over the limit. I'm thinking he watches too much porn Razz

Yes that makes sense to use it as a hotspot. Thanks
