I just received a bill from sgic.co.kr for 244,000 Won and have no idea why. The last 4 months I've been here I've not had a bill for anything over about 50k Won, and all of a sudden I've got this.

Anyone got the faintest idea what SGIC is and what they do? I've had a look at their website but I can't make head or tail of anything. Asset protection insurance? Bond premium insurance?

What have I done to owe them 244 grand?

For ordinary people who never used the likes of SGIC for a third-party loan guarantee service when taking a loan from banks and other financial institutions, the most probable link would be their unpaid phone bill and/or something to do with their mobile handset/smartphone.

Without taking a good look at 'what' they're billing you for, however, there's no way to tell what to make of it.

First check it is in your name. Sometimes you will get bills from old tenants. If it is in someone else's name, ignore, leave in your mailbox or with other dead/wrong letter area around the box. If you want to put the effort. Inform them they have the wrong person.

Can you post an image (with your name and address blacked out)?

It's ok - my boss took a look at it today and pointed out that it was addressed to someone else, just in Korean.

Phew!

Make sure that you have your ID with you at all time in case two big guys with baseball bats show up at your door.
