So... I had an interview with YBM and they liked me and sent me a contract on the 10th of July. In the interview, the director was somewhat vague about the start date (he actually said something like "so, we have a position in September, but if not, then October or for sure November"... ). I asked to have the contact info for a western teacher, I got it and then emailed him and he emailed back and everything seemed above board. So on the 13th I wrote to ask the director if he knew what the start date was for sure. He sent me an email saying that it was for September 1st, and did not seem to remember that he had been less decisive on the phone. It was the weekend, and I was out of town so I didn't reply right away, but when I got back on Sunday night I wrote back saying that I would accept the contract if that date (September 1st) was firm. I didn't hear back. And I still haven't heard back... I know it's only been 1 day, but I'm honestly a little worried, although I'm really not sure what I could have done wrong. YBM is a pretty trustworthy franchise, from what I understand, and so this seems odd. I kind of want to call (although I'm not really sure what branch I'd be at -- it's in Seoul, in Gangnam) and see what is happening, but I don't want to pester him. However, if I no longer have the job, I would like to know so I can move on.

Thought?

Move on. They aren't interested any longer.

so... one person telling me to move on, another telling me to chill... see, this is where my brain is at. Do I keep looking for a job or do I wait and see what happens with this one? I kind of need to know. I need to be able to tell my current job (in Canada) when I'm leaving.

Most workplaces in Korea (at least schools) tend to be very 'last-minute' kind of places. Give it a week and if no one responds move on. In the meantime shop around for other jobs.

I'd say this is accurate. Disorganization is the name of the game, and schools will frequently wait until a couple weeks before an opening to find a teacher, even if they get notice months in advance that their current teacher is leaving. Really though, why is this?

Relax. It's been a day.

On the other hand, you were out of town and didn't respond quickly either. Since you didn't reply within one day, maybe they hired someone else.

You are worried because of a 1 DAY delay in responding???

I suggest you relax a bit and realize that the school director may have a few things on his plate besides responding to your email on July 17th for a September 1st job....give a few days.

I just got an interview offer from YBM IA in Chungdahm Seoul. Is this the job you're going for? They may just be looking for more than one teacher, or might just be confused/disorganized, I'm not sure.

YBM ECC?

Sit tight. You'll most likely get a call or email back. What location? What branch of YBM is this?

YBM ECC is usually good about filling their positions 2-3 months in advance. I accepted my position 4 months out, but that was because it was a 3pm-8pm job, and the 3 month out position was a 9.30am-6pm kindy gig.

If you don't hear back within 2-3 days, shoot the recruiter an email or better yet, call him/her.
