For me, it was more of the northern accent that threw me off when adjusting to the British pronunciation (especially Manchester). The Australians on the other hand are not hard to hear, but their choice of words are different from American or British.

I have one friend from NZ who kept inviting me for a "feed", now is that NZ or NZ and AU? I sure don't hear Brits say that. |

Yeah we don't say 'feed' in the UK. I heard that a lot in Australia too. Especially when fruit picking.. "Ahhhhh bro im starvin, letz geta big feed on the go"
My NZ friend also says it. Also the way the Kiwi's say 7 is hysterical. |

I thought he had a pet he needed to buy food for
Another one asked me if I wanted to "hire" a movie. I asked, "What does it charge and what will it do for me?" |

I'm not feeling sharp tonight. Hire as in - to rent?
Like to hire a film from blockbuster?
Lol - I'm not with you on this one! |

Yes, in the US and probably Canada, we don't use "hire" to mean "rent". You hire a person (like a plumber or roofer) to do a one time job and leave, and you rent a thing.
So his answer to me was, "It's going to work for you in the video player". |
