Good instincts Comm, I've read that in a pinch a little Purell under the arms will help eliminate odor causing bacteria until you can find a stick of deo.
I remember when I was a kid my Dad and Grandad used Old Spice talcum powder. I imaging that pre all the gell sticks and misogynist body sprays that's what some people did; perfumed talcum powder sounds just fine to me.
I had friends & classmates from Persia and Saudi (who have not adopted the practice of applying deodorant or anti-perspirant) and they used an unpleasant amount of cologne to mask their odors. |

I don't get it... Are there body sprays that hate women? |

there was a KT at a hagwon I worked at who had such a powerful stench
of garlic, I couldn't stand to be in the same room with her.
Even the other KT's would walk away quickly when she entered the room.
She was at the school for about a week and some of the other Korean
teachers must have talked to her about it, because it became much less intense. |

More info on crystal would be appreciated- are you referring to the brand or just the generic type, product recommendations would be appreciated.
If you wear fragrances, whatever you use in terms of deodorant or anti-antiperspirant must be unscented. I really hate anti-antiperspirants, but in the summer months I can't get away with out wearing something (Guess I missed out on that Asian sweat gland thing- although maybe not...if I don' sweat, I'm fine) so its the supply of Mitchum unscented I have... |

I used this once or twice a month to save my shirts from getting those awful deodorant underarm stains http://www.odaban.com/
I'm a big bloke from chilly old Northern England so both things combined mean I melt in the summer months. |

| Deodorant doesn't cause the stains. Anti-perspirant does. I wear a lot of white, and haven't gotten any underarm stains since switching to regular deodorant. |

| Anti perspirant/deodorant are virtually interchangeable in my vernacular. Whatever it was, it caused me to stain many a shirt over the years. |

Now that it's hot sticky season again, I find myself showering twice a day - no pit stick.
I remember living in dorms a couple years in university. I discovered how gross and dirty men / boys are. Some guys spend 3 minutes in the water. Some don't use soap, just the lather from their shampoo! It's no wonder some people smell and others don't.
What's wrong with bar of deodorant soap, those cool wash towels, and 15 minutes in the water?
I'd hate to compare myself to someone else who says they shower twice a day. Some people's level of cleanliness is pretty low.
They are definitely the ones that need to bath in deodorant, antiperspirant, and other stink-masking chemicals.
I don't think the question here is if one needs deodorant, but if one needs to learn how to clean themselves. |

I have the crystal stuff and the brand is called "Naturally Fresh - Deodorant Crystal". It's the only brand I've seen in Canada, but there are a couple different types.
The one I'm currently using is in a pink circular container and says "Now with Aloe Vera" - the other was in a white, oval container, and the only difference I could see was that one has aloe.
Both types say hypoallergenic, fragrance free and paraben free and there's a big sticker that says "No Harmful Aluminums".
You moisten the stick and then apply to your underarms or the bottom of your feet. Works well and lasts for ages! |

Deodorant is a small investment. I find a stick of Old Spice lasts about 5 months. $10 and a small tiny space in your suitcase will get you through over a year.
Anyone coming and going shouldn't be put out, and it wouldn't break the bank getting a 3 pack shipped here. |

I've never understood why I was always able to find and buy deodorant/anti-perspirant in Korea and others can't find it.
If nothing else, go to Guk jae market in Busan. Plenty of shops there
that will have Old Spice or Speed Stik.
I'm sure other centers have these places as well. |

| I've noticed a few posters on this thread saying that anti-perspiration negatively affects lymphatic function. If you could post links here to studies published in peer-reviewed medical journals showing this I'd very much appreciate it. |
