"Love may not always be romantic and tender -- about 7,000 Koreans have been suffering from dating violence annually for the last three years, a report said."
�Abuse that happened more than twice, especially when it�s related to drinking, is highly likely to recur,� said Dr. Lim Se-won, a psychiatrist at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital. �It�s important to take action when it first happens.�
Right Dr. Lim Se-won, after the first time a drinking man might stop after the first time so you just don't know until it happens "twice" or...? Women should thank the Dr. for telling them what "action" not to take. I'm guessing Dr. Lim is a female who didn't want to upset the boys for suggesting women should leave a man for being violent. |

From what I've seen, many Korean guys on dates treat the woman as if she were another guy- punching them, grabbing their face, and other jokey semi-aggressive type behaviour.
Fair enough- I was also pretty clueless too when I was that age.
But its almost as if they had never socialised with females ever before in their lives, they can only relate to other males.
Stupid movies have a lot to do with the dysfunctionality of young relationships too. Its almost as if you can see them acting out scenes from popular movies when on dates. And the society-driven need to impress or play particular roles.
So glad I'm not 20-something anymore.  |

I don't know what Korean guys you've been watching, but living in a university area, I've never really seen that at all. Plenty of young couples around all the time, never seen a guy grab a girl's face. The only fighting I've seen is verbal, it's easy to spot, they'll be the only couple standing opposite each other and at least one of them will have their arms crossed. Young couples only seem to stand apart when they are fighting here.
One thing I have noticed is some guys who seem to "guide" their girlfriends when they're going somewhere. They seem to have an unusual grip on their elbow or forearm, or something like that. Almost like one would expect a cop to walk a perp. I don't see it that often, maybe once a week or so, just enough that I notice it. However, the don't usually appear to be fighting at the time. Often, they are joking and laughing. |

The girl in the pic certainly didn't have a black eye.
As far as running shirtless in Korea, Koreans don't even do this. It's especially rude for foreigners as well. Small little things that we think are normal in our own cultures cause rifts here. No wonder foreigners are always getting negative press here. Learn about Korean etiquette and show some respect people. |

1. Don't like it? Then change the law. It was not illegal where I did it.
2. Koreans don't do this? Quite a few do at the Han River while jogging.
3. They claim to be global then they should be what they claim. |
