So Pifan, the bucheon film festival is going on right now.

And it is pretty big this year. Bigger than previous years for sure.

And I have seen maybe 15 movies. And I watched a few online as well. And what I have noticed is that most of the movies are really not that great. In fact, most of them have been pretty subpar.

They are on average low budget, derivative movies that I image couldn't play at larger movie festivals.

Part of the reason for this, I think is that many times the directors and actors have a Q and A after the screening. Bigger films, and greater talents probably would skip a smaller film festival in Korea. And hence, PIFAN has to settle for lower talent.

I'm curious what other think about the festival. What movies did you see? What were worth seeing?

Thanks.

used to be a great festival - they started going downhill around 2007, then 2008, that was the last year I went. a couple of films were canceled at the last minute; one was supposed to have subtitles and it didn't. another was supposed to be in English and it wasn't.

sorry to hear it never got good again. maybe the people behind it changed or something. oh well. Sad

It could be because of lower budget. Many film festivals in Korea have had their budgets slashed, and that's been the end of a few of them including the Chungmuro Int'l Film Festival.
