So I have 2 notarized copies of my degree to take to get apostilled (it's like a 45 minutes drive) within the next few days..

I mailed my FBI background check to the state dept. for the apostille on Friday priority, they're supposed to get it tomorrow, and I have a prepaid priority envelope with tracking inside my envelope.

How long will it take to get the apostilled check back from them? Their website says 10 days to process, but I have a contract for August 17th so I'm starting to get a little worried.

Also, after I have all my documents and contract, I can just drive up to Seattle to get the visa taken care of?

Any advice would be great. I tried searcheslcafe.com and had trouble finding any good info :/

i) AFTER you have all your documents in hand you need to send them to Korea (to the employer).

ii) The employer will:

a) if a private company- apply for a visa confirmation number from immigration.
b) if a public school program (EPIK/GEPIK) - send a NOA (notice of appointment) to you.

iii) When you get the visa confirmation number or the NOA back from Korea you will go to the embassy to apply for your actual E2 visa.

iv) When you get the visa in your passport you can then book your flight and go to Korea.

iv-a) do NOT book your flight until you have an actual visa in your passport or you very well may be back here posting something like, "Flight tomorrow and no visa yet - What can I do??)

The process typically takes 12-21 days AFTER you send the documents to Korea.

Thanks for your quick response! I called my congressman today to see about expediting the apostille since they did receive it today and he's going to try to get it pushed through, then hopefully I'll have all the documents I need to mail to Korea.

I'm still a little confused on what exactly I send to Korea though. Do I need to mail them my passport, or just the BC and degree? I heard that I need to bring things to a Korean Consulate, is this not the case?

I'm also flying out August 17th and had to have my paperwork in by July 20th...you're lucky your school is giving you more time Smile

As for what to mail to your school, I had to send:
My signed contract
CBC and Apostille
Copy of degree and Apostille
Copy of my passport info page
Health checklist form
5 passport photos

After speaking with someone at the consulate, I was told to bring:
filled application from website
official uni transcripts
1 passport photo
Your passport
$45

For Korea you need the CBC and degree with apostilles along with any other documentation your employer wants.

You KEEP your passport with you. You need the passport when you go to the consulate to get your actual visa. (send a photocopy to Korea if requested).
