What are the best (cheapest) options for getting a basic non disgusting clean room with a bed in Seoul preferably close to Hongdae and/or Itaewon. By cheap I mean 30 or less.
(Not a jimi bang sp? or dorm room style hostel) |

Not a jjimjilbang? Not disgusting? OK, Mr. Fancy Pants....
Near Ewha University station (2 stops from Hongdae) there are a few yeogwans near Exits 5 & 6 that go for W30k a night that should get the job done. I've stayed in the Grand Yeogwan (https://maps.google.com/maps?q=%EC%9D%B4%EB%8C%80%EC%97%AD+%EA%B7%B8%EB%9E%9C%EB%93%9C+%EC%97%AC%EA%B4%80&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=37.559054,126.945691&spn=0.008488,0.01869&sll=37.556352,126.945965&sspn=0.00107,0.002336&hq=%EA%B7%B8%EB%9E%9C%EB%93%9C+%EC%97%AC%EA%B4%80&hnear=%EC%9D%B4%EB%8C%80%EC%97%AD+Daeheung-dong,+Mapo-gu,+Seoul,+South+Korea&t=m&z=16&iwloc=A), the rooms are nothing fancy but it's cheap and quiet.
In Itaewon, the only place I know of you can stay at for W30k or less is the equally misnamed "Dream" Goshiwon. W20k a night will get you a room with a twin bed and a desk. The foot of the bed goes under the desk because that's the only way they could fit both of them in the room. There's no private bath, but the shower at the end of the hall is only big enough for one, so in a sense it's still a private bath. Rooms here actually sell out pretty quickly, so if you want to stay there you'd better plan ahead and book early, like before sunset. No stumbling in at 2 a.m. here.
Here's where it is: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=%EC%9D%B4%ED%83%9C%EC%9B%90%EC%97%AD+%EB%93%9C%EB%A6%BC+%EA%B3%A0%EC%8B%9C%EC%9B%90&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=37.534064,126.995784&spn=0.001061,0.002336&sll=37.55625,126.945962&sspn=0.00107,0.002336&hq=%EB%93%9C%EB%A6%BC+%EA%B3%A0%EC%8B%9C%EC%9B%90&hnear=%EC%9D%B4%ED%83%9C%EC%9B%90%EC%97%AD+127+Itaewon-dong,+Yongsan-gu,+Seoul,+South+Korea&t=m&fll=37.534061,126.995784&fspn=0.00107,0.002336&z=19 |

I just noticed your post in the Job Discussion Forum that you're looking for a job in Korea, so you're probably looking for something to stay in for a few weeks while you look, right? Those places I mentioned are OK for a place to spend a Saturday night when you don't want to take a taxi back to the burbs, but I wouldn't recommend them for longer. If you need to spend a few weeks on the cheap, you'll get cheaper and better accommodations at a goshi-tel (고시텔). They usually run for about W400k/month, and you'll get a small room with a bed, a dresser, and a desk, a private bathroom (you might have to pay a bit extra for that) and shared kitchen/laundry facilities.
I can't recommend a particular one, but here are a bunch in Hongdae: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=%ED%99%8D%EB%8C%80+%EA%B3%A0%EC%8B%9C%ED%85%94&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=37.552573,126.923171&spn=0.004687,0.010568&sll=37.564174,126.98822&sspn=1.199575,2.705383&hq=%EA%B3%A0%EC%8B%9C%ED%85%94&hnear=%ED%99%8D%EB%8C%80+94+Wausan-ro,+Mapo-gu,+Seoul,+121-160,+South+Korea&t=m&fll=37.552573,126.923171&fspn=0.004687,0.010568&z=17
Good luck on your job search. |
