Honestly, if they can sleep through my lessons, they must be pretty damn tired. I have a loud voice and I talk the whole class.

Do you just lecture them the entire class? That could be a contributing factor as to why they sleep in your class.

1. If it's an isolated incident, let them rest.

2. If it happens often, change my teaching style.

No. It's never THEIR fault for sleeping in class. Rolling Eyes
There's no amount of style changes a teacher can make if a student has set in in his or her heart that they will not take English seriously and/or learn it.

For me, I continue teaching without a misstep and slowly, calmly walk up to them and with a gentle shaking of their shoulder I, quickly break from my rhetoric to ask quietly, "Are you ok?" Usually they answer in the affirmative and they make a greater effort to be strong and stay awake.

If they aren't ok, from lack of sleep, late night out, or actually ill I tell them to take it easy, do your best. And continue my lesson.

Key is no loss of face/embarrassment, no real disruption and a real concern for the wellfare of my students.

It's all good~!

When I was in grade school and a student fell asleep in class there was one math teacher who would throw erasers and other office supplies at our head. The most popular method was the teacher would just grab a heavy text book and drop it on the floor right next to the desk. :/

For me.......if it is a habit I would tap on their desk and tell them to wake up and I would speak to them about it. If it happened here and there I would do nothing.

For my little sister....95% of the students at her middle school are bigger than her and she is sick of being given the finger by students so she now does nothing.
