I know this has been posted plenty of times already, but I'm not very good at searching this website...

A bit down lately and think I need to get out of the city for a day or two. I am off this entire week. Ideally I would like to find a decent place to SWIM (most important). Freshwater preferred, beaches work too. The closer to Seoul, the better. Pretty, unpeopled landscape is ideal. Obviously everything I say is ideal, but I'm aware of this.

My Korean is pretty poor... I can read slowly but I'd rather a place that's relatively simple to get to. I don't have a car, but I would rent one if it isn't too complicated (I have a valid American license, if that means anything).

If you have a mostly undiscovered spot and are reluctant to share it on the forum, send me a PM and I will happily buy you dinner when I get back. No joke. I'm kind of depressed and it would mean a lot to me.

If you have a place you don't mind sharing here, please post details. Thanks for any help.

After doing a bit of research, I think the East Sea is for me. Anyone have a favorite of these to recommend?

I really just want the least crowded beach I can find, and preferably one that isn't too confusing to reach by public transportation. I realize that's kind of a contradiction.

Also, anyone know anything about Donghae? My quasi-girl recommended something thereabouts... also East Sea...

There are PLENTY of areas that you are looking for, but unless you have your own wheels (car, 250cc motorcylce minimum) forget about it and you're doomed to the over-crowded beaches.

I will say, the further north you head up the coast, yep, towards the DMZ, then you'll find what you're looking for. I love finding remote beaches, crashing in a cheap minbak, if I'm lucky, meet some Koreans, drink soju and play go-stop and go for a swim in the morning. One of the best vacations in my life.

With a 250cc Mirage, I cruised from Wonju, Jecheon, Taebaek, Gangneung, Sokcho, Jumujin, over the mountain ranges towards Chuncheon. It killed my bike, but I rode and swam every beach I found in a single day. Ride, swim, ride, swim, ride swim. awesome.

Haha, the final stretch I had to call a tow truck for me and my bike. It was DONE. but it was fun~

Man... that sounds so nice. Times like this I wish I didn't sell my motorcycle (I hated driving it in Seoul).

Anyone know anything about renting a car?!
