The Scottish often dislike the English; the English don't care or are worried. What has Scotland done in the last 100 years?
The Australians often dislike the English; the English don't care. It's too far away and they know if they got rid of the Queen the costs of changing all of the currency and stamps isn't worth it.
The Irish already have got rid of the English and their recent history is plagued by economic chaos. The English don't care.
The Zimbabweans lost England's supervision; it didn't turn out too well.
The Sudanese were friends with England for a while; maybe they'll get back to where they were, one day.
India and Sri Lanka are a result of English mistakes. But also they benefit from infrastructure that was developed during England's time there.
In time the US will be seen also as the 'good guy' because the victor always writes the history books |

Let me guess. You're English?
Actually most of the countries you listed couldn't give two hoots about fallen, depressing "great" Britain.
Washed up superpower who had some interest and influence 70+ years ago, but these days is the source of ridicule and pity amongst former colonies who are for the most part doing better than ye olde motherland, or horror at the fact the country whose language most of us make a living off these days virtually requires subtitles every time one of it's serfs speak.
Meanwhile the "great" British natives relocate to more desirable places in the old commonwealth in record numbers for purposes of better financial opportunities or better quality of life. Who cares about who exactly?
These days "great" Britain is on par with those gross old cougars who hang out in Geckos in Itaewon telling anyone who'll listen how amazing they are, and how all the guys in the place want them, and all the girls in the place want to *be* them, yet in reality everyone just looks at them and rolls their eyes and makes jokes at their expense as to how delusional they are.
great indeed. |

Actually you really sound like you actually do give two hoots about 'fallen depressing Great Britain', wherever you're from. Your rant comes across as pretty bitter for whatever reason. Kind of like the way the more obnoxious
Scottish or Irish people often sound after a few drinks. |

Whatever, Catflaps. Isn't the whole purpose of this site/forum to speak one's mind? Bitter? meh. If that helps you deal with the facts and get some sleep then so be it. Reality is more like indifference combined with amusement at the role some people still think their sunset country plays in world affairs. Take that to mean giving a hoot, or two, or three or simply a passing interest - the point still stands.
Out of curiosity why exactly do Scottish or Irish express obnoxious viewpoints toward the "motherland"? |

It's not a very grown up poll is it? Oh come on, guys, it's just a silly poll. I don't see anywhere what questions they actually asked to come up with the results, so who knows how they determined who is "loved" or "hated". If you guys have a link to that, I'd be interested. |

Can anyone explain why Switzerland has garnered so much love in the poll? It's a pretty enough place but boring as ****. |

That used to be how I ranked them, but since being in Korea and having to deal with Canadians and realizing how hateful they were toward America for no reason, I'd put them before France now.
1. Canada
2. France |
Ironically, you have no good reason to hate France. |

"Familiarity breeds contempt"
It is ironic that the three countries South Korea is most like and emulates (Japan, China, and America) are the most hated. |
Americans, in contrast, tend to love countries that are most like their own.
Most Hated Countries in America:
1) Iran
2) North Korea
3) Afghanistan
4) Pakistan
5) Syria
Most Loved Countries in America:
1) Canada
2) Australia
3) Great Britain
4) Germany
5) Japan

You beat me to it. I just looked that up out of curiosity. These polls are just popularity contests (no need for scientific data for that), nothing more, and should not be taken too seriously. |

It's not just a question of being scientific though it sounds too vague to be able to answer properly. If someone asked me what chocolate bar I liked the most, for example, it'd obviously be for the purpose of eating it but if someone asked me what country I liked most my first reaction would be, 'in what way?'. I love Thailand for example, but I wouldn't want to live there. I'd love to live in France but am not sure about the people. I quite like living in Korea, but would never come on holiday here, in the worldcup, I'd probably support Ireland next, if England got knocked out etc...etc.. |

So Koreans have become more anti-Japanese within the past decade, but their view of America has improved significantly. |
Look at the growing animosity towards China. I think that's interesting... and wonder if it'll every play big in politics here. |

I see your point, but I don't think the question itself warrants any serious consideration. Most of the countries South Koreans profess to hate are countries with a relatively large South Korean population, so they obviously don't hate the idea of living there too much. They're also countries Koreans visit in large numbers, and in the case of North Korea, China and Japan, countries with a similar culture |
