So I have been working at an afterschool program for the past year. They have asked me to renew, but one of the locations I work at will be letting me go due to lack of enrollment (but they're still willing to place me somewhere new).
They will still continue the program, but only with a Korean teacher. Up to now I've been working at two locations and getting paid extra, but under the new deal I would be only working at one place and losing out on the extra money.
Plus, I will be out of work for 2-4 weeks in September while waiting for the new location to start, and will not get paid for that (though they tell me that everything else due in this year's contract - including severance - will be paid).
I will almost certainly refuse this, but I'm curious if they can do this? I've heard that it's legal to be let go due to financial difficulties but does that only count if the branch is closing entirely? The program will still fulfill the rest of their contract with the public school. I would much rather just work out the rest of my contract normally and move on without losing any pay. |

I would like it if I could just stay home and they mailed the checks to me. |

what does your contract say? that would be a good place to start.
is there a set number of hours? does the employer have the right to lower those hours? are you paid regardless or is there a clause that possibly allows them not to pay you if hours are not fulfilled? |

Just called labor about this, and no it is not legal at all. I will talk to my manager about it. |
