I had a great experience with Korvia. I missed the EPIK deadline last year and Korvia got me a job in the Bundang district with a big officetel with GEPIK. Most other people's housing isn't as great as mine, so I really lucked out.

Awesome, very encouraging to know. I will have the screening interview with Serena and I have heard good things about her. I would prefer GEPIK over EPIK but getting into either would be great. I understand in term of pay, there are better jobs out there but from research is seems that either program would be a good stepping stone for a fresh out of college newbie.

Does anyone know if GEPIK will take a certification from TESOL Express. I've read up on some reviews of TESOL Express and most people say it's not a very good course... however, there's a groupon special thats selling the 120-hour course for dirt cheap. I know I may not really learn much, but I'm really just looking to get the TESOL requirement filled to apply for GEPIK.

Do you guys this it's okay to just take this course or should I play it safe and just take an online course with someone more reputable (like a course that's recommended by a recruiter)? Any input would be appreciated Smile

PostPosted: Thu Aug 09, 2012 5:31 pm    Post subject: EPIK 2013, from America or within Korea? Reply with quote

I'm an F-4 Visa holder. My father and entire paternal family reside in Korea, my mother is American. I was born and raised in America. I'm engaged and plan to teach in Korea for the Spring 2013 EPIK semester.

I'm debating applying from here, or moving to Korea first (staying with family) and applying there. I don't know how my fiance's Visa status would need to be handled.

I was working with Korvia but they've been a little spotty with communication, long gaps of time in responding to emails, vague emails about a lack of positions for joint applicants, and what seem to be mass emails. I'm considering re-applying with a new recruiting company.

I'm feeling very anxious and uncertain about the entire process and I don't know where to go for most answers to anything because there are so many specifics. I want to build my teaching experience in Korea, and spend time with my family, learn the language, but going together (with David) has complicated things. I don't know how soon to send out my information (I'm 120 HR TEFL/TESOL certified, BA, FBI CRC, PA STATE CRC, 3 copies of Sealed Transcripts, 2 Sealed letters of Rec and PDF files, Headshots, I have all of the paperwork done).

any help is great help.

Megan,

You have it pretty easy. Try to get some hagwon to pay for you flight over here. Then dump them if they suck when you get here. It doesn't really matter where you apply for the visa, but from Korea would be easier.

Your fiance on the other hand is gonna have a harder go of it. You might want to wait for him to land a job first.

Just did initial interview with Korvia. Said they had many positions last year and expected the same this year. Apps begin Dec which I will have all docs by then. She mentioned you will be able to have preference to city or even individual schools.

Wow that's great news! I'm planning with working with Korvia, as well. Everyone's experience with them seem so different (some had great luck, while others had none). Hopefully, I'll be one of the lucky ones.

But I thought applications began in October? December's quite late, no?

Whaaaaaaaaaaat. That's BS. They strung me along at the beginning telling me how awesome my application and I are and I'll for sure get a job quickly and in the end they pulled the bait-and-switch on me. When i didn't bite, they told me there are few jobs this year and told me to find a new recruiter for hagwon jobs. In the beginning they warned me that I can only use one recruiter (I knew that was a lie at the time, though) and when I didn't let them trick me they tell me to go away and use another recruiter? Yeesh.

There are a lot of mixed reviews on Korvia and unfortunately, my experience was on a bad end of the spectrum.

That's good to know!!!

I will continue to go through with EPIK through FootPrints and GEPIK through Korvia.

Can't put all eggs in one basket, however I want a Public school job with either.

She said December, I should have everything by mid Oct anyways.

Keep us updated with your interview so we can see if there are any inconsistencies.

Jeremydc808 or anyone else who's currently working with Korvia,

When did you hear back from Korvia after submitting your online application? Did it take several days or was it a fairly quick reply?

Also, any one with past experience with EPIK and GEPIK know how it works if you don't get accepted? Do they give some sort of official notice of rejection after they fill all the positions? How long after applications are submitted to GEPIK/EPIK can you expect to hear whether you've been accepted or rejected?

My Korvia recruiter said to have everything ready by Sept 21st before the Korean national holiday.
