Me and the s.o. have been offered a really good air/hotel deal to Boracay this August. Never been there, but I've heard that is monsoon and typhoon season. We'd like to spend two weeks.
Anyone been there in Auguat? Can fun still be had? Our travel style is staying at family run inns, renting a scooter and exploring/sightseeing, shopping at open markets, getting massage. We're not huge beach types, but I'm up for a swim and a snorkel. |

Get drenched = not really. The rainy season means you typically get an afternoon or early evening rainstorm every day but they only last for an hour or so.
Boracay is almost under the typhoon belt (being in the Visayas) so that is not really an issue (like it would be in Luzon or Leyte).
As to your activities.... Boracay is a 4km long white sand beach with a large rock at either end (giving it a dumbell shape). It is 7km long and 1km wide for most of it's length.
You can walk around it in a day. There isn't much for markets (that aren't tourist driven).
The good news is that it is pretty laid back, massages are p500/hr all along the beach and there is lots of time for rest and relaxation.
The bad news is that white beach isn't that nice with on-shore winds blowing hard most of the day (the resorts do put up wind barriers) and the beach filling up with flotsam as a result.
The back side of the island (in August) is pretty decent for whiling away your time but the beach isn't very nice.

I wouldn't... but I am not you and I am just fine sitting under a tree, watching the waves and reading a book or 4.
On the up side... a week on the island and then spend a few days on Panay exploring is not a bad way to spend some time. The old colonial architecture and colonial churches in Iloilo is worth a few days to explore around a bit.

| I spent a week on Boracay one august & it was awesome. The rains that did pass through were refreshing. But yeh, the Philippines are so easy to get around & if you want to do some adventuring choose a second destination as well. |

Do a check on the weather. I've been in Boracay for nearly a month now and we had a bad typhoon in late July and bad rain.
I love this island to death but probably will avoid coming here in July and August since it's rainy season. I'd like to see the sun and a decent sunset once in a while. |
