For real. The horse is doing all the work for you. If it's gonna involve horses, it should be jousting. As for shooting, how are those guys called athletes? I bet I'm more fit than half those guys.

Also add the million ways of running and swimming to the list of sports that need to go.

I'd like to see kendo and BJJ in the games.

I don't know, that's why I asked if it was right. I think I heard something about America putting out a 'dream team' once at an Olympics and slaughtering everyone - showing that in previous Olympics they'd been holding back for some reason. As you can probably tell, I'm shooting in the dark here.

Prior to 1992 that was the case. Now the US sends its best but there is talk of reverting back to an under the age of 23 format similar to soccer in the Olympics and starting a World Cup of Basketball.

I actually find the games of leisure and society to be more entertaining than many of the sports.

Equestrian, Archery, Shooting, Gold, Tennis. Good times.

I also enjoy sports that add artistic elements. I think that makes the sport more compelling, not less.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one to a degree. I mentioned that on FB the other day. Do there really need to be 15 different medal categories for shooting? Leave a couple and toss the majority.

I think you mean something else. South Korea won the gold medal in baseball in the last olympics. I was there in Central City at the big TV's they have there when the triple play was done over TV.

Yeah, I agree they should put baseball back in. (Baseball & Softball were dropped prior to the 2012 games.)

Baseball , at least, has Latin American & Asian teams that are competitive with the USA.

Softball, on the other hand , was always dominated by the USA, so it was a snooze fest.

Basketball should also drop the NBA players from Olympic competition, but a team with Kobe Bryant & Lebron James on the same squad is too attractive from a TV ad revenue standpoint, I guess.

I always root for the underdog nations in basketball & was sorry to see Spain fall short in the final.

It'll be good to see rugby added for the Brazil 2016 games ... Golf ??? ummm, not so much.

Badminton is an awesome game. I'd love to know people who play it. It's just as much fun as tennis, but it's more commonly played indoors so weather is never a factor (big deal in Britain) and you don't have to go chasing after the shuttlecock, unlike tennis where half of the time (and your energy) is wasted fetching the ball.

Baseball was obviously omitted because London didn't want to build stadiums that would get used in the future.

One commentator mentioned that the OIC and FIBA would possibly put into effect age requirements for athletes of the next Brazil games.

Many of the more popular sports such as tennis, baseball, basketball, soccer, etc. don't really need to be included in the Olympics. They are successful on their own.

Heck, netball might become an Olympic sport

its not so much why is badminton there, it's why aren't other sports there,.

if you are gonna put shooting and archery, then you gotta put Darts and snooker or how about the guy taking a shot from the furthest place out,
the kill shot, the worlds best sniper.

I mean if we are celebrating the worlds best, then we need more events.

Baseball was officially removed because MLB refuses to send their players near the end of the season.

MLB doesn't care, and probably like hockey and basketball, the IOC won't even let them use any Olympic footage (even with MLB players) in non-IOC marketing. So MLB sees little benefit to releasing their players as the season winds down.

BJJ and Muay Thai RIO 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(my ideal world)

Not sure how MMA would work out... might be a bit much for the world right now. Would love to see it, though.

BJJ could work but MMA and Muay Thai would get watered down like hell. Look at what they did to boxing. Although the new rule changes might improve things.
